Should they stay or should they go?

I'm of the opinion that games are undervalued right now compared to other collectibles.
Aren't some comics worth over a million? (I'm pretty sure some high amounts have been dished out)
I think prices will keep going up as long as those interested keep having higher incomes to spend on their hobby.
I think there's a guy on Nintendo Age selling a near full CIB SNES set for about $20k.
That's peanuts for some people but meanwhile a single comic can cost more than what a full set of SNES games would cost.
Think of an athlete, an executive, or someone who gets a really good bonus at their job - 20 grand would be peanuts to them. I think as more people become successful and earn more who are interested in games we will see prices continue to rise.
I'm good either way .. I've spent some cash for some high priced stuff but I'm not planning to retire by selling the stuff either.
If prices go down there's still lots of games I want that will now be cheaper.

Very, VERY few comics are worth more than shit right now.
Prices on all these games CANNOT keep going up forever. That's simply not how the collectibles market works. There are booms and busts, just like the economy. Yes, some will likely retain some value for a very long period of time (see comics, sports cards, etc), but the massive inflation of even the most common titles (15+ bucks for SMW, please) will collapse FOR SURE.
There are already plenty of people buying games with more money than they need to spend, and the population of late 20 and 30-somethings that grew up with these games and are feeling the nostalgia isn't growing. As much as there are plenty of younger folks getting into retro games, it's really us gaming "old farts" that are at the core of the scene. If VG collecting becomes profitable enough, then you'll see folks with big $$$ step in if only to buy and sell. But I don't think that'll happen, and if it does, not for a while. Prices aren't such that it would be worth it.

We are at a time right now where the current systems are towards the end of their life, sequel after sequel gets churned out and games that came out a month ago are already being sold for $40 or less. Personally I am sick of buying new games that are the same as all the rest (shooters mainly) and buy many more retro games because of it. Once the new systems come out the games will not be discounted as fast so there will be less money to go around and there will be something new so the need to buy retro for some will no longer be there. This is by no means scientific, just a gut feeling and personal experience with my spending habits.

I don't think it's necessarily a bubble. I think it's more like a beach ball, it will take a while to fully deflate and I think it has already been popped, around 2 - 3 months ago. I dare say in a year or two the prices of retro games will have deflated by a decent amount. I think in some area's the price will always remain very high (countries that lack a retro scene such as Ireland), but for sure, the prices will definitely drop in places were there is a big market.
If the new Metal Gear games come out for the PS3, I might wait a few years before picking up a PS4 and focus on finishing off my generation 7 and Mega Drive wanted lists. If the new Metal Gear games are definite PS4 titles, then no doubt I'll be getting a PS4 when those games are released, but for now I'm not really collecting for any specific console, picking up what I can, when I can.

End of a console's lifecycle is the best time to collect.
I can't wait for PS4 to come out because the market will be flooded with PS3 games and I can complete my wanted list for dirt cheap while focusing on collector's editions of all the RPGs that will come to the PS3 in limited quantities this summer / fall.
I did the exact same thing with the PS2 and now I'm not in a position where I have to overpay to get something I missed. I think I only have about 5 or 6 expensive PS2 games to get which isn't too bad.

I'd say sell anything you do not enjoy to play, after all what is the point of owning a game if you are not going to play it

It's all up to the holder of the collection. I agree with everyone on here that if you're going to sell now is the time but also if you are looking to complete collections like I am then it's worthwhile to hold on to what you have until you feel comfortable letting go of it.
Now if you do decide to sell, let me know I'm missing about 60 games to complete the NES library so I might be able to help you out as well. But remember, with great collections com great responsibilities.
