A point I brought up before, and a good point my friend reminded me of. Once the servers for Xbox One go down, does that mean you'll be able to register anymore games? Will you even be able to play games on the fucking machine?
That would be a resounding... no.
I didn't think so...
Why would they do that?
They can just resell you your Xbox One games on the Xbox Two
The problem with M$ is that although they are a very successful company they only think about the bottom line. I don't blame companies for this as they have to stay in business and hit financial targets to keep investors happy. My issue is this is all they (investors) focus on. It's all quantitative measures such as profit, sales, DLC revenue, etc.
They miss the qualitative measures such as public opinion, customer satisfaction, customer experience, ethics, etc.
Their needs to be a balance, but unfortunately, the qualitative measures usually don't help an executive hit their bonus targets since their bonus is likely tied only to financial performance.
I really hope this system tanks hard so that the negative financial impact shows them that being greedy and trying to "nickle and dime" your customers doesn't pay off in the long run.
I suspect it will sell well though because the majority of the market (the people that buy the annual COD, NHL, Madden, etc.) see gaming as consumptive entertainment much like going to a movie. They don't collect and don't buy games to replay a long time into the future as there will always be the newest installment waiting for them every year.
