TSOLfan:
I can understand the hate, though for me, I'm buying one just for Killer Instinct (well, and the Panzer Dragoon game and the new Remedy title, I loved me some Alan Wake).  The same way I'm sure many people bought a 360 just for Halo or a PS3 just for Metal Gear.

That may sound stupid to some, but I've got a garage full of arcade cabinets, both Killer Instincts included (actually 2 KI1's, doesn't hurt to have a backup :)  If there was any game that could get me to buy a console for it alone, Killer Instinct is one of those few games (Panzer Dragoon just happens to be another).

And articles like this makes it sound even more awesome (in that they've got the right people on the bus making the game):

They can also go ahead and sign me up for that special edition season pass they mention in the article.

With that said, I'll be the first to agree that if the licensing server ever goes away and the game dies, that would suck.  But, the same could be said about anything such as a KI machine's hard drive going toast, or any number of MMORPGs that people have paid monthly fees on getting discontinued.  Heck, I still wish AOL had Neverwinter Nights up and running and I didn't lose everything I had invested in that game (Forgotten World is a fun way to reminisce, but just doesn't feel the same not having to pay per hour) :P

If I had to trust any company to keep a licensing server online for years to come, it would be Microsoft.  If they ever decide to take it down years from now, one would think they could push out an OS update for "offline" mode, but again, there's no guarantees.  Guess at that point, they'll just have forced my hand to spend more time with the kids :D

Also, cool to here some of the guys behind the original Weaponlord are working on the game as well, I really enjoyed that game as well (had a parry system, one of the first games I remember with one, weapon based fighting with breakable weapons, and who can forget the "fatality" combo system, similar to what Mortal Kombat: Armageddon used).  I remember you could even play it online with the X-Band modem, though, I never had one of those to ever try it out.

The only thing that could make it even better in my mind is if they announced that there are some members of the One Must Fall dev team helping out with the game.  I recall burning up so much time on that game on my, bleeding edge at the time, Pentium 75mhz machine (which was an epic Packard Bell bought at a Service Merchandise :)

recall reading something about the xbone eula having a clause where they reserved the rights to take it all down eventually and you wouldn't sue them for losing access. but that's prolly just covering their asses, you know how those licenses are.
either way, i'd never dispute someone picking a system for that one title. got my ps2 for ffx and my ps3 for mgs4, even if both those titles turned out to be the worst i've played in their franchises (just my opinion). peace walker was great tho, and i can't help getting hyped again for mgs5.

This is such a massive deterrent for me.

That said, if they DID ever take it down without offering some sort of release from server verification, then they'd be facing a pretty big class action lawsuit, regardless of any ass-covering that they're doing right now (not that there are any winners besides lawyers in such cases).

Yea, this is standard operating procedure for most any company.  Here's Sony's version of it for the PS3 EULA:

--- Quote ---We give no warranty about the quality, functionality, availability, completeness, accuracy or performance of Sony Entertainment Network or any Services available via Sony Entertainment Network. We do not guarantee Sony Entertainment Network will always be available or error free and we assume no liability for your inability to purchase or use any Services.
