  • Coffee... What would I do without you?
Personally, I'm split between PS2 and Gamecube.

While I love the feel and shape of the Gamecube controller, and its ability to fit so comfortably into my hand, I still much prefer the way the PS2's buttons are mapped on the controller. If Nintendo had gone with the Wii U pro controller, but in a Gamecube controller housing, while also shifting the directional pad and a, b, x, y buttons with the analogue sticks, the Gamecube controller would have had been an amazing controller, and by far my favorite.

Metroid Prime with 2 analogue sticks? Yes fucking please!

My least favourite? Tie between N64 controller and Wii U game pad. Both are clunky as hell.

Favorite system: SNES

Favorite controller: xbox360 (it just feels perfect in my hands)

I've been wanting an ascii pad for awhile. Now I need a scoremaster too.

If you're into fighting and shooting games, then the Score Master is all you need. Though it was exclusive to Europe, it's still way better then the Super Advantage (which had a weird button layout).

AS arcade stick maybe but as controller ASCII Pad is better, qualitywise it's like the original PAL pad but with turbo for all buttons.

The only thing I hate about the N64 controller is the thumbstick being right in the center. After a few hours trying to play "Super Mario 64" or "Ocarina of Time", my left thumb often felt like it was falling off.

Overall, my favorite controller is probably the Super NES, because that's the system I played the most games on through the years. The original box-shaped NES controller is a classic, but the "dogbone" variant is better for long-term comfort.

I just prefer arcade sticks over regular game pads anyway, so for me it's way better than any pad.

Loved the SNES controller.

I've got a HORI Commander pro SNES controller that I bought off Satoshi Matrix and it's my go to SNES controller - I prefer it to the Ascii Pad.

Also really like the Dual Shock 3.

If the 360 controller didn't have such a crappy D-pad it would be my favorite.  I tend to prefer RPG's and 2d platformers which I have to use a dpad for.  It just gives me better control than analogue.

I can only choose one?  Inconceivable.

It's pretty much a tossup for me between Gamecube, 360 and the Sony Dualshock (2 or 3).  There are only a few controllers that I absolutely dislike and it amused me that which have received a vote.  I find most are good for what they are and if not I learn to love them.  Ultimately I chose Gamecube here... not sure why.  I went with my gut.  It might not be the best, but the question did say favorite.

I am not keen on GameCube or n64 controller, and I detest the Xbox pads, in all their incarnations.  Other than that, I have got on well with pretty much all  the others.  PS3 my favourite by a long shot.

Worst?  Intellivision/colecovision, or jaguar.

Not an option on the poll, but: Classic Controller Pro. If the thing had rumble, it'd be perfect.

My top are:
SNES - Best retro
PS2 - Best modern

Xbox 360 is close for modern, but the battery back is in the way.
Gamecube is also close, I love the button layout but the D-Pad is awful, not a fan of the shoulder buttons.

Also SEGA controllers are terrible. I tried the Genesis 1 and Dreamcast, both are awkward to hold and the 3 bottom lay out is awful.
End of rant that would probably piss someone off.
