I have a potentially good deal lined up, however the seller is about a 2 hr drive away and offering to ship to me if I pay via paypal.

Would I be protected in this case?

i.e. if they just take my money and don't ship can I file a claim and get my $$ back even if it's not through ebay?

Most likely is the best answer.  The protection isn't as great as it would be with eBay, and you must make SURE that the money is sent for goods/services, NOT personal.

So make sure I specify I'm buying goods?

Kind of like when I buy off NintendoAge .. i.e. not a gift payment?

Correct.

If you send it as a gift, PayPal assumes you're sending this to someone you know. Not for something you bought that is being shipped to you. They're not going to be very inclined to help you out if you lied to them and cheated them out of their fees. Make sure you pay for them as goods and that will make sure that isn't an issue.

Thanks for the info .. I guess it could be worth the risk then if I can get my $$ back.

Hopefully the lady gets back to me :)

Also, how long does it take to get your funds back?

Basically I'm worried it's a scam but I'm protected then I'll take a chance as long as I'm not out the cast for too long.

Varies depending on how long their investigation takes.

mmm... not sure what to do.

The deal is $500 for

Flintstones 2: Surprise at Dino peak - cart (has a small sticker on the label - not sure if I could get it off)

Rodland cart

stack up cart

miracle piano cart

rescue rangers 2 CIB - box has same sticker on it as flintstones 2 cart - no pic of cart or manual - don't even know what's in the box ... could be nothing in there.

The goal is to resell Flintstones and get the rest to keep for myself for free

Man, that's a lot of money to hope they send it then hope PayPal will refund you if it doesn't get sent. Personally I would skip it.

Would the drive really be out of the question?

I mean I know that a 2 hr drive one way isn't exactly pleasant but if you do the only problems you'll face are gas prices and the seller potentially not showing up and having to take a 2 hr drive back home empty handed.  But if everything is legitimate then that 2 hr drive home wouldn't feel as bad and youd be going home knowing that you won't have any other worries except for selling the game.  If anything take a good friend and make it a little day trip kinda thing.

I once took a 90 mile drive that was 1.5 hrs long to a junkyard (wanted to find spare parts for various car projects) only to find out that the place had long been shut down :/  but since I had gone with my cousin, the drive went pretty well and we hung around the town a bit before heading back.  It sucked that our plans failed, but it was also nice to just take the drive and make it into a little mini trip.

I'm trying to arrange a pick up. It's only an hour away.

Seller says they will call me tonight.

Was definitely a scam.  Seller was apparently "busy" until 10 pm but I had my girfriend email and offer less than I did and she received a reply within 1 min and after trying to set up a meeting the seller wanted to ship only.

I assume this was a Craigslist ad? Because Craigslist ad + PayPal  = scam.

Kijiji which like craigist.  Maybe it's only in Canada.

It's owned by eBay I think.
