Was looking some of my stuff earlier, and when Hyrule Historia crossed my eyes I thought of this awesome idea and couldn't keep myself from immediately going to work on it:

Only completed A Link to the Past so far, but the others will be mostly similar. The title on the front will change, obviously. So will the symbol on the front, the Hylian on the front (using that game's version of the language, when possible), and the volume number on the spine.

Since the first one here is A Link to the Past, I made some minor attempts to make it resemble the Book of Mudora, hence the choice of symbol. :)

The volume numbering is going to be based on the official timeline. That's why the "Era of Defeat" is on there. There's going to be three games labeled as volume V, one for each timeline split. I'll probably do an alternate numbering set based on order of release. I could do the non-canon games as Appendices. ;D

And yes, because the idea is for them to look like a set of books, it's all going to be UGC. Even the handhelds and disc-based games. :P

Anyway, I'm open to suggestions if anyone wants me to add anything... as long as it's not system info or anything that breaks the illusion of them as books ;)

cool idea. how are you going to choose the cover colors?

i think ocarina of time should be gold - to go with the cartridge color!
and majoras mask - purple?

I too had the idea of replacing all spines of covers with actual leather with gold leaf intendented letters for all games so theyd look like real books on shelf.

But my collection is so big that I gave up, for now at least.

I was planning to do them all green, so it'd look like a single, unified set of book volumes... But I could do some different colors for the different timeline segments as options. I would think...

Early Era (Skyward Sword, Minish Cap, Four Swords, Ocarina) - Gold
Era of Defeat (A Link to the Past, Oracle of Ages/Seasons, Link's Awakening, Zelda 1, Adventure of Link) - Green
Child Era (Majora's Mask, Twilight Princess, Four Swords Adventures) - Purple
Adult Era (Wind Waker, Phantom Hourglass, Spirit Tracks) - Blue
Appendices (Link's Crossbow Training, Game & Watch, Game Watch, CDi games, etc.) - Red

Also, "OoT should be gold to match the cartridge" reasoning is kind of weak considering Zelda 1, 2, and Majora's Mask are also gold cartridges (and far easier to find as such), not to mention the discs of Wind Waker and Twilight Princess  :P

Haven't done another one yet, BUT! I've re-kajiggered how I'm rendering the gold foil on these, and it looks much better.

Also added a little divider line on the spine. ;D

Not gonna work as the spines I want would be real leather which isa too thick for that.

Besides I said easy and fast!!! :P
Cutting each individual letter for let's say 2000 covers would be pain.

Next, an easy one to pick the icon for: Skyward Sword!

Aaand based on the idea of having different parts of the timeline as different colors- The gold version!

Naturally, gold on gold wouldn't work, so instead it's black print on this one. :P
