They have indeed started to make third party expansion paks.

BadChad:

To be honest, I think they've been making them for a while. Ive seen a few 3rd party Expansion Paks in the past that actually looked exactly like the official N64 Expansions Paks but without any Nintendo logos/licensing, and simply had "Expansion Pak" on the front.

Spoonman:

I've never seen them.  Asked a guy in an independent game shop near me (he has lots of 3rd party controllers for all systems and memory cards and a 3rd party jumper pak) but he told me there wasn't any 3rd party expansion pak.  Otherwise he would order some.

That's weird.  Hopefully these will become more common.

BadChad:

Ive never actually seen them on a shelf in a store or anything. But a couple years ago, finding N64's at my Value Village thrift store was like a "once a week" thing. I use to pick them to resell. A few times I noticed some of them had those generic expansions packs I was talking about that looked exactly like official expansions packs minus the Nintendo logo on the front. Im assuming they were 3rd party.

Just cheap, shitty components :(

Started?  Nah, that garbage has been around since 3 months after the release of the original expansion pak.  Were shit then, are shit now.
