Ah, so they cut costs by having little or no proper heatsink?

some tvs i've tried just can't handle the n64 frequencies. iirc there was sound but nothing on the screen. just putting that out there.
Spoonman:
I had an N64 that was sitting in a box for a long time and I took it out recently, same problem.  It was the jumper pak.  I got a new one.  I also recently got a new expansion pak for another system.  Had to ebay it because there are no 3rd party productions of expansion paks, only jumper paks.  Does any body know why that is?  I'm concerned that at some point the one I have may go and I'll need to replace it again... don't want to pay through the nose for it if they keep getting rarer...
