  • Coffee... What would I do without you?
Last night my friend and I, were discussing the history of Metroid and what direction we would like to see the next Metroid game take. In the midst of getting our drunken asses kicked by the glory that is Battletoads in Battlemaniacs, my friend said that he would be very pleased to see the game follow in the same direction as the Prime trilogy, while I am very much for Metroid returning to its roots and going back to a 2D side scroller. When the beer had finally taken its toll, when we couldn't handle getting our asses kicked by the 3rd level of Battletoads anymore, and when the last cigarette had been smoked, we finally admitted defeat and called it a day. As I was falling asleep, I just thought, "I wonder what the guys on TCP would think... Yeah! That would totally be an interesting topic"... So here we are.

Let us know what you guys think. What direction should they go in with the next Metroid? Prime style? 2D side scroller style? A new style? Let us know what you think! :)

For me personally it doesn't matter either way because I will buy it anyway. If I have to choose I'd rather play a new Prime game with the Wii U controller pointed at the TV when you want to scan something. Or an Other M style game without all the cry baby/daddy issue story.

I think I prefer 2D Metroid, but would not mind good 3D Metroid either as long as the movement is done with  one stick and aiming with the other in real time.

As Arseen has said, I wouldn't mind a Prime style game, as long as there was one analogue stick for aiming, and another for moving. I just would like to see another back to basics 2D side scroller game because the last one was Zero Mission (or Fusion, can't remember which one came out last). Just to reinforce that they haven't done away with the old style. I love me some 2D side scroller goodness!

  • Think off-center.
The next one should take on a 3rd person view with 1st person elements (aiming, puzzles, vehicles) and sidescroller like map on the controller. Bam. Wham. Zam.

Metroid is one of my favorite videogame series. They need to do something 2d and/or 3d. And Metroid: Other M, it never happened la la la la la la

Other M's gameplay wasn't bad. It wasn't perfect, but for a first attempt the actual gameplay wasn't a bad direction. It was the story, linearity to rival Metroid II, voice acting, and whatnot that really ruined the game. So I wouldn't mind them giving it a second go, though it might be too painful for people still scarred by M:OM.

I prefer 2D personally. But I never got into the Prime series. Maybe I would have if I had gotten my hands on the Trilogy, but c'est la vie.

This so much.

No need for any of that crap, and it WAS so Team Ninja style in that way.  Blah blah blah.

link-to-the-past style RPG!

That's an interesting idea. Not sure how well it would work in the Metroid world, but definitely interesting...

PS: Zelda is not an RPG! It's a Dungeon Adventure game with a mild element of  a puzzle games and a small hints of RPG flavors!

I feel a chicken/egg debate coming on... LOL!

Unless they're implying they want an RPG that plays like a top down Zelda game. Scourge on the GBA or DS plays kinda like that.

GRET topic since I just finished acquiring ALL Metroid titles.  One of my favorite video game series of all time but have not played all titles yet.  Favorites are the 2 GBA titles.  Currently playing through them all in release order (just started, so still on 1st Metroid).

I'd like to see the franchise go the way of the Mario games.  Maybe a new console title like Prime, but I would more like to see a 3DS title like the New Super Mario Bros. games-- so 3D graphics but in a 2D sidescrolling format.  I think that would be awesome.
