I was at a Goodwill a couple of days ago when I saw a copy of the first Donkey Kong Country. I didn't have it, and it was only a dollar, so I bought it. When I got it home though, it turns out there's a time limit of 300 seconds when you play the game. I looked more closely at the cartridge and it says "Competition Cartridge".

It's not much good for playing, but maybe it's worth something? Does anyone know anything about this 'special version' of DKC?

Are you saying that because the answer is obvious? :(

If it is, would it really be that hard to tell me?

Azarkhel is exhibiting the typical internet response when someone posts an incredible story without realizing that it is incredible and/or asks questions that would be swiftly answered through a Google search.

The DKC Competition cartridge was used in competitions at Blockbuster stores and was afterwards sold briefly as a mail-order-only item through Nintendo Power magazine. It is one of the rarer SNES carts as a result, and typically sells for $500+

it would, i know, but... the prestige it would bring me among the admittedly small group of people that appreciate old games...

i dont really have anything else in my collection thats 'special', and the fact that i lucked into it makes me even more reluctant to get rid of it!
