I want to buy a working Sega CD add-on for my Model 1 Sega Genesis. disc drive or lid? which would be model would be better? Also I'll be looking for a 32x add-on in the near future. Would somebody be willing to take a look at ebay and let me know their opinion on what would be the best for me to pick up right now? Thanks in advance. |

I'm in the same boat as you. A Sega CD add-on is at the top of my console desires right now. Unfortunately you rarely see them by themselves, and eBay seems very inconsistant with final values (anywhere from $35-80 for a working model). I think I'll end up stalking garage sales and flea markets this spring for one. |

Get an X'Eye. |

I have a model one genesis and sega cd but hated the fact that it required 2 power adaptors. So I bought a cdx and would highly recommend it. I have read that a model 2 sega cd is more reliable then a model one. I bought my model one sega cd from a thrift store for $20 and the cdx from ebay for $100. I think the x'eye is going for around 220ish. |

The general wisdom is that the model 2 Sega CD is more reliable because it doesn't have the drawer (more moving parts = more likely to fail) General wisdom is also that the model 1 Genesis is the model to have (for superior sound and compatibility and such) This leaves you with a very wide Genesis and, if you care about the looks of the system itself, an extra piece to get ahold of that extends the base of the model 2 CD to the full width of the model 1 Genesis. Or you could just put a book or something under it. Whatever. |
