Unless the rumor turns out to be true, I have every intention of owning the next Xbox and eventually a PS4. Hell, I might even get a Wii U once they get stacked into clearence racks.

I must have Halo. And I need some Uncharted and God of War on the side.
My DS Cover Requests: Anno 1701, A Witch's Tale, A Witch's Wish, Black Sigil, Dynasty Warriors, Flower Sun and Rain, Mage Knight Destiny's Soldier, n+, Time Ace

None of this matters because once it comes out and has that killer game that none of the other systems have many of the people saying they won't get it because of always online will buy it anyway. It's just like when you have a really cool boss at work that gets fired or transferred, everybody says they will quit but once the new boss comes in and you realize there's not any better jobs out there you end up staying.

There is no single killer app that will force me to buy a system.  Never has been, never will.  There are plenty of fish in the sea, and I can just as easily play my backlog for the rest of my life and never buy a brand new game honestly, not to mention all the games from the current gen that I'd still like to get.

Well, if games for Xbox 720 are exclusive to one Profile, they lose their collectibility. For someone like myself who likes physical copies of games, it means PS4 is my only option.

Plus, the Xbox 360 had something like 70 million units sold and 40 million Xbox live users. Well, I know several of those acounts are mine. I have like 5 Xbox live accounts and 2 gold members ships for 2 boxing. They will have to fight tooth and nail to re-acquire those potential users, then what? ll

Well, if people can justify spending 500 - 700 on a console that will be rendered useless once the system is no longer supported, then fair enough. I personally can't justify spengin money on something that will be just a fancy piece of plastic + expensive coasters in 10-15 years time. That fact that Microsoft hasn't fired Adam Orth yet, tells me that they also share his #dealwithit mentality. In all honesty, my feelings at the moment are, "fuck em"... Halo and Gears of War are good, but they not that good. I have the 3DS, Nintendo Wii U, and I plan on getting the PS4. I think that will my generation 8 gaming experience.

I just think it's an overreaction to a rumor that may or may not be true. I love how people can say I will not be getting a new Xbox or I will get a new PS4 when we know just about nothing of either machine. I have all 3 now and will most likely get all 3 (I already have Wii U) of the next gen. Always online will not deter me from getting it (my 360 has not been unhooked from the internet once since I got it in December 2005!) if it's too pricey however I will not get it at launch.

The specifications for the PS4 have been released for a while now, and it has been confirmed that the PS4 will play used games, and will not require online play. Microsoft have only released 'maybe' statements thus far, and if that's we have to go on, then why not talk about it?

Its great that you can afford the Xbox live subscription, and have a stable connect, but *if* the next gen Xbox requires online play, and *if* it requires a subscription, and *if* if doesn't play used games, then I can't justify the expense, at 500-700 for the console + 60 every 14 months (over 8 odd years, likely more), especially when the internet around my area is God awful. I would have been forced out of the 'buying the Xbox 720/Durango' group. :(

Maybe your right, maybe it is an overreaction, but in my situation (the situation many other gamers are in mind you) I call it rational thinking.

AlphaOmegaSin makes a good point.

I believe everyone knows where I stand on the online only, digital download only, pay to play used games crap.

I won't do it. Ever. I would be a retro gamer and ultimately have less to collect in the long run.

Hey guys! Look at this new game that I can't... Really.... Show you....

I mean wtf...

ps4 seems kinda safe for now, but they're sorta shifting the responsibility over to the publishers. if they wanna limit used sales, sony would probably back them up. jack tretton personally said the whole thing's a bad idea but admitted that's really for the jap honchos to decide.

nextbox1080 has some nasty rumors attached to it, and all we've got so far is one of it's devs defending these things on twitter. there's still time to fix some of the unacceptable stuff. to reiterate:
* absolutely always on-line
* blocking of used games
* mandatory 3d camera attachment

anyway, like some have already stated: there are enough games out already to last us a lifetime. you can skip a console or two without missing out on much, and besides - if there's no used resales, or even any physical media at all, you're 'purchase' doesn't actually give you anything so what's the point?

I personally see the banning of used games as a bad business move in many aspects of the industry. Not everyone can or wants to risk $20, $30, or even $50 on a game. If only a few people buy the first game of a new series, you are limiting future sales to those and maybe a couple others. But say if a game is bought used, and the game is passed around between friends, that is free publicity that can grow future sales of that game and its sequels should they be released.

Such moves would also harm the retail market, namely brick and mortar mom and pop shops that buy and sell games and other pieces of electronic media (among other things). Such places create jobs in their community, and if those places loose a chunk of their revenue, cuts would have to be made in the name of jobs.

I think I read somewhere that Gamestop said that if used games are blocked they would not sell the console.
I think this goes to many other retailers as well.

Ouch.  Something tells me a decision like that, coupled with what seems like an overwhelming negative response from players would put the kibosh on this idea.

Well the vast majority of GameStop's income is selling used games. They make anywhere between 200% - 400% profit on selling used games. Though I don't like GameStop, I wouldn't blame them.
