If this is true, then I will NOT be buying the next Xbox until someone hacks it, which sucks for Microsoft, because it means they will lose my money. I will not buy a game that requires a web connection. That's just an antiquated means by which to implement DRM that's been proven to only piss off owners of legitimate games and do virtually nothing to stop piracy.

So basically, it's a giant shot in the foot if that's their plan.

My thoughts are that Microsoft's gaming devision decided they'd rather Nintendo not be in last place of the console wars for next gen.

my thoughts:

stupid if true.

not everyone has super-duper internet speeds or connectivity! thats why i dont use steam, 'cos i cant play anything without the internet connection.

if this does turn out to be true, MS have just about halved there potential customers!

Well as you guys have said, if it is true, and the next generation XBox doesn't support used games or offline play, then I won't be buying the system. As it is the only exclusive games that raise my interest are Gears of War and Halo, even with those two games and hidden gems thrown in, it is not worth the money, considering once the console is no longer supported, my games and the console are useless.

To be honest, even before this I had serious doubts that I would be investing in the new XBox anyway.

I've heard rumor that the next Failbox will allow used games, BUT you'll have to pay a "small" fee to unlock used games, so Microsoft will make money on used sales as well as new.

Can you imagine paying Honda a fee to unlock your newly acquired 2008 Accord?  Or maybe cutting Maytag a check so you can plug that fridge in that you just picked up on Craigslist?  Such horse shit.

Are you fucking serious? LOLOLOL! That would be the make or break alone *if true*. Just imagine it, picking up a game for $5, then having to pay another $25 to even play the fucking thing, and I wouldn't put it past them to charge you a ridiculous amount. Its like "Here, have this amazing sandwich! It's called a shit sandwich! It has carrots, corn, nuts and a side order of extra shit!".

If any console has always on internet DRM or blocks used games I'll skip the console.

I'm glad SNES repro scene is still going, if not strong, atleast still alive.

Yeah if both PS4 and Xbox720 have even either of those, WiiU will be the winner.

I don't think that PS4 will require a constant conection at all. And I'm really starting to doubt that the next Xbox will either. Microsoft still has two months until their announcement at E3. And if the last two days are any indication, it'd be suicide to come out with this.

I mean really, what the hell would the point of a console even be if it required a constant high speed internet connection? At that point you should just have a mini box like On Live did. No point to have console in your house when you could play everything cloud based with little more than a controller and USB plugged into your TV.

Its has been confirmed that the PS4 will not to require an internet connection and will play used games. I doubt Microsoft will go through with this, but with that said, I wouldn't be surprised if they did.

If this is true, it'll be bad news for Microsoft, but good news for the retro gaming scene. $_$

It's funny and timely because just two months ago I bought a 2007 Honda Accord.  :D

My thoughts:

I have absolutely no plans to buy the next Xbox unless they make a game series I adore - Fallout, Mass Effect, Earth Defense Force etc exclusively for it.

Hell, I'm still discovering original Xbox games I never played that still look fantastic today. Add to that the countless Xbox 360 games I've never played because the PS3 has been my system of choice 90% of this generation (and even so, the remaining 10% is split between DS, PSP, Wii and THEN 360)

I live in a rural area with very slow internet - only around 2 mbs at the absolute most. That's just how it is - the only speed all providers in the area provide. Until that changes, online gaming holds no interest for me and is actually a hindrance.  I'm probably in the minority when I say that online gaming doesn't matter to me, but I honestly worry that if Microsoft does this, it'll send the message to Sony and Nintendo that it's also okay for them to have always on internet requirements. It's just a matter of a simple firmware update to lock that in.
