Hello,

I am working on Foam Inserts for the UGC and the upcoming SeymoreOnion game cases. The foam inserts will be sized to hold GameBoy and GameBoy Color carts (if enough demand we will also have them slit for Game Gear and other portable games.

I have two questions.

1. Is there interest in purchasing these foam inserts and what price point would you need.

2. Can someone design a Game Boy and Game Boy Color template that will allow the front and back artwork to be placed on the insert? I guess it would need a boarder similiar to how the SNES and N64 Vertical templates are designed.

Thanks

Tom

UGC just seems like such a huge space for Game Boy games. Now if there was a way to make an easy fit into a DVD case... now that might interest me.

All depends on the Onion cases.
Are there cases that already hold cart firmly or do we need the inserts.

If former, then no need for the inserts, if latter the demand will be high, I alone need 200+ GB/GBC, 200+ GBA, 30 for Virtual Boy and 100 for Game Gear for starters.

I'll buy from you if the price is OK, otherwise I make my own.

Oh they were for UBCs then I'll pass.

Like Blumpkin said too much wasted space, as are DVD case ones too.

3rd on wasted space.

Has Seymour considered doing portable cases? I haven't noticed if so.  A EU DS-sized OGC (Onion Game Case) would kick ass!

A DS sized case that could fit a standard GBA/GBC cart without modding would be awesome. I'd even take an insert that just let you cut out all the guts of a DS case indiscriminately then slap the insert into place.

That would work for me as well, plus it'd be dirt cheap!

Thanks for the replies.

I acutally thought of trying to use DS cases or even PSP cases but they just need too much modification to work. We have over 2000 GameBoy games in stock. It would be too time consuming to modify those cases.

I would disagree that the UGC cases would have too much wasted space. If you look at a Game Cube Disc, it really isn't much larger than a Game Boy or Game Gear Cart (I know the manual is full size) but I don't hear wasted space arguments for those. Perhaps its because Nintendo used those larger cases so people don't care. UGC cases are only a few inches taller then original GB/GBC boxes so i don't think storage space would be in issue. Also, many people place original dreamcast and playstation cases into the DVD size cases which is basically the same thing, size wise, as using UGC instead of a DS case.

If someone could design a vertical Game Boy template i think it would look very sharp.

Still bit wasted space I'd say US thickness is better, 3DS ones might be too thin for multi-language EU manuals.

Yeah I've been doing all GB/GBC games in 3DS cases.  Putting foam strips in so they don't rattle (there's a thread on this). And all my GBA in DS cases.  Collection is looking very nice so far.

How about foam inserts for Cassette Tape Cases?
Would any of you be interested in something like that?

There's a thread on here, somewhere, where people are making custom artwork for Handheld Game Carts in Cassette Tape Cases.

Edited to add:
I do plan on making polypropylene cases for handheld game carts (similar to DS Cases), but it's going to be 1 to 2 years before I can start up that product line.

I personally would not use a UGC, tape cassette case, or anything else other than a DS case to hold Gameboy, Gameboy Colour, and Gameboy Advanced games.

I like my shelf to look uniform (i.e. spines will match), so having Gameboy, and Gameboy Colour games in UGC while my Gameboy Advanced, DS, and 3DS are in different styles of cases I think would kill the uniform look of my handheld game shelf.

This is my personal opinion.

  • Coffee... What would I do without you?
UGC or DVD cases to hold GB, GBC, or GBA games is just madness, even more so when you can get DS or 3DS cases next to free (yes I got all of mine free  ;D  ;D  ;D ). I would say you would be more likely to raise peoples interest with foam inserts for the newer DS cases (the ones without the GBA slot) and the regular 3DS cases. Since I get mine for free, I'm pretty happy to continue hacking up DS and 3DS cases.

If your really serious about this, maybe invest some money in case that has not been previously discussed, provide and demonstration of how the foam, game, and manuals would sit in the case. Maybe try some thing like a 10mm-15mm poly case?

Do you mean he could make foam inserts for something like this?:
http://www.supermediastore.com/product/u/poly-case-24-disc-clear-multi-pack-20pk?utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=productAds&utm_term={keyword}&utm_content=pla&gclid=CKvf3O73sbYCFQGCnQod538Ahw

or like this?
http://www.burnsmart.com/6-Disc-Black-Poly-Case-p/6871.htm

You could probably leave one of the CD Sleeves in there, for a Manual, and make a foam insert for the game carts. Although, I'm not sure of all game manuals could fit in there; you'd have to check.

Seymore, i don't think those would work as the cost per case is very high.

What about this case. It might work if i chop out the middle column. http://www.checkoutstore.com/White-Color-CD-DVD-Box-up-to-16-Discs-p/whtcasebox.htm. They have them in black too.
