there is marking on my super nintendo cartridge i just bought..

its mario RPG so i really would like to get the marker off..

i tried 70% alcohol and i tried a magic eraser to try to remove it but neither will even make it fade even a little.

The marker is on the plastic.

Suggestions please?

not sure if it's a difference but I use 91% alcohol and it almost removes everything

If it's only on the cartridge and not the label I'd go with Goo Gone. Just make sure you apply whatever you choose to the rag, and not directly to the cart.  ;)

Oh, and going over permanent marker with dry-erase marker tends to lift it too.

If all else fails -> replace the shell

If it's on the back -> replace the back
If it's on the front -> replace the whole shell, we should have replacement label somewhere.

70% is far too dilute. 91% should do it, and if not, 99% WILL.

You need to use some elbow grease, but Magic Eraser will get it off. you just gotta work those arm muscles.

I would NOT use alcohol on the plastic. It could discolor it. Goo Gone is more of an oil. I would/do use Goo Gone

goof off you can find at home depot or lowes for under 5 dollars and it works every time just dont spray it directly on the cart, spray on a paper towel and it works every time...

The only issue with the Magic Eraser is that it's an abrasive pad, no different then sand paper.  It will remove plastic and thus some of the original texture.

Isopropyl is ABS safe.  30 seconds of exposure will not harm the cart.  Hell, I soak cart shells in 50/50% distilled water/iso solution over a 24 hour period to remove the labels for the really expensive practically radical omnivorous carts that I make ;)

REALLY long exposure of a high concentration will eventually discolor it, but like Windexwhic contains Ammonium Hydroxide (not very plastic friendly at all), the concentration and length of exposure isn't enough to do any real harm.  I've used Windex and Iso to clean carts for decades and have never seen any ill effects.

Don't EVER use Goof Off on plastics!  Goo-Gone is orange oil based, Goof-Off is Xylene based.  That shit EATS ABS like Kanye West puts his foot in his mouth.

But why risk it?  Xylene is incredibly volatile stuff and other, safer products work just as well.  If it was all that worked, then I could see supporting cautious use, but 91% ISO has only failed me 2 or 3 times ever when trying to remove marker.  When that happens, 99% ALWAYS works.  Zero failure rate on it in my experience.

I worked used game retail for 7+ years and this was a company which (used to) ensure that customers weren't buying carts with crap written all over them.   I'm sure I've wiped "Mike" from at least 50 carts and countless other names over the years ;)

HAHAHA! I like that! ;)

Im a Goo Gone user myself. Ive never had any discolouration what so ever and I usually put a few drops directly on the area Im cleaning so it can soak in. Ive used it to remove stickers, residue and permanent marker on carts, jewel cases, ps2 cases, and even disc labels for PS1 and PS2 games. Ive even used it on NES and SNES labels which should be fine as long as the label is laminated and doesnt have any tears or rips the Goo Gone can sneak into. I do use a Magic Eraser too from time to time, but like wiggy said it is abrasive and any excesive scrubbing will result in loss of original texture. And there is the dry erase method aswell, which I find only works so well.

And a friend once told me Axe Body Spray apprerently works pretty well too but I wouldnt know.

Brasso worked pretty well on my copy of "TMNT2". I also use it to get the corrosion off the contacts when I clean my games.
