N64 Snowboard Kids 2 HELP ???

I just got a sweet copy of Snowboard kids 2 but every time I try to play story mode I get this message:
"backup memory is corrupted. game start aborted"
And then I have to reset my system, I have never heard of this before and it only happens if I try to start story mode, the game starts up fine and the other modes work fine too. Just an issue with story mode.
Please Help!

Me thinks yer cart's battery is dead, get it replaced.

^^^ No battery in Snowboards Kids 2 (iirc).
Turn the system on with the cart in, pull the cart out, try again. It was likely corrupted by something similar having been done to it at some point (not saying by you), and your best chance is to try and wipe the save file out. May try rapid power on-off cycles too.
Now, I don't KNOW this to be a perfect fix, but it's about all I can think of to try and solve the problem since it's not a battery backup. So try at your own risk.

WWF No Mercy had save file issues like this.
When you power on the system, hold Start to intialize the control pak (game). This should erase all data and start your game fresh. Otherwise, not sure what you could do.
Perhaps memory card in the controller is messed up? They have issues all the time.
