This is true, look at things like the game cube, N64, and Sega saturn! The Point is ugly consoles people love because they play great games!

No they definitely shouldn't.  That looks like a kids toy.  Don't like it at all.

I actually think the retron 5 looks pretty good.  As long as its well made and sturdy, I'll go for one.

Seriously guys. As long as it works well, console design isn't really all that important.

I think the main reason for this is that the average retro gamer is 20-35, people become more conscious of design and how things fit into their homes/AV setup. It's a purely aesthetic concern of course, but it's by no means "unimportant". I guess older people have more expectations, when we were kids anything that played games was instantly awesome no matter how it looked.

That said I don't particularly hate the design, it's not great either though. A simple Hi-Fi style case with the controller ports on the front (hidden behind a flap) would have been a-ok with me. Though if the pack in controllers are actually decent then I don't imagine i'll be using the side ports much at all, seriously though...what's with Hyperkin and side controller ports?

At 40 years old,  its difficult enough to justify my game  collection!   I've never been into action figure/statues even as a kid.

I'm not sure how to put my opinion on the look into text, It would kinda be like:

It is like someone went crazy drawing a house with the line tool in MS Paint.

The Retron5 looks just fine. and again, that's the PROTOTYPE. I suspect it very likely the final build will be much more compact. Hyperkin has even said they have yet to finalize the motherboard itself.


The final design will be like that, but slimmer.

Some people are picky. I'm looking at the black one here and this thing is a sexy motherfucker. I'm still going to hear a few reviews first, but it looks like I'll have to have to get me some Sega Genesis games just to take advantage of the power of this beast. I'm thinking Shinobi, all the Sonics, Altered Beast, Golden Axe, Streets of Rage, Alien Storm, and whatever else is good. I never had a Genesis growing up, my best friend did. so I'll have to look into what's hot on the Sega side.

For having five ports I think it looks sexy as hell. I'm just undecided on whether I want it in black or SNES themed.

Get SEGA 6-Pak, It has Shinobi, Sonic 1,  Golden Axe, Streets of Rage, Columbus, and Super Hang-On.
It normally goes or $5-$10.
Also Vectorman and Rocket Knight Adventures is good. Ecco is alright.


I don't hate the design, I do not love the design, It is meh. Black looks better though.

Since this system is basically an android device with some cart slots I wonder if they will ever dive into a N64 emulation machine.  I would love to see what the modding community would do with a machine like.

When i talked to one of the reps a few weekends ago in person they had finalized the shell they where just not done with the guts like you stated so there may be changes on the inside but there wont on the outside
