Bits today really mean nothing, hell Bits never really meant anything. The bit is just the word size in binary, and the type of registers involved denote the word length (8bit registers, 16 bit registers etc). The registers are used to store data for quick access functions, such as things dealing with math it needs to crunch.

If it blows your mind that the Gamecube has a 32bit Processor, then how about this. The Playstation 3 is also 32bit, while the Xbox 360 is 64...and people argue that the PS3 is more powerful.

How about this? What was the first 16bit console? Genesis? TG-16? It was actually the Intellivision from Mattel, and the colecovision surpassed it in power, while being an 8 bit system.

What really matters is the processor speed, and overall performance, not so much the type of registers between 32bit and 64bit.

PCs and Macs today only have 32 or 64 bits, depending on what you buy, It was just used as a buzz word in advertising and does not mean much.

The best part about the TG-16 is that it's the only 16-bit console with 16 in its name and it technically has an 8-bit CPU :P

"Only" is not really the word to use. In reality, we'll NEVER see computers with anything higher than 128bit processors.  And even those will be overkill for like 95% of all computing needs.   64bit will cut it for most everything.

64-bit PCs only really came into prominence a few years back

8-bit CPU, 16 bit GPUs... Which is why it ends up playing/looking half-way between a NES and SNES for the most part, in my opinion.

ok I Got to See and play one over the Week End at the TooManyGames EXPO! a few high lights of the system! if a Game does not work on the retron 5 it records the data to an SD Card! then you can send then the data online, and they will design an update and send it back to you, the one thing about it is it only has HDMI out put so no light gun Games are Playable! they had it displayed in both glossy Black, and a Snes Color Scheme, I asked what the Price was going to be they replied that it has not been finalized but there shooting for under 100 dollars/USD! It also has slots for snes, Sega Genesis, and if i remember right the third was NES Controllers!!!
If I did not already have all those consoles id most likely get one!

Update!
I forgot to mention you can use the SD Card slot on the system for save Stats! so thats pretty damn handy especially for games with dead batteries!
Also the GBA slot on the front is backwards compatible with Gameboy and GameBoy Color!!!

Again, I can't wait to get one. Although it's a little disconcerting that it doesn't have an exact release date and price yet.
My DS Cover Requests: Anno 1701, A Witch's Tale, A Witch's Wish, Black Sigil, Dynasty Warriors, Flower Sun and Rain, Mage Knight Destiny's Soldier, n+, Time Ace

The OUYA is out this week, but I'm holding out for this...until I hear too much for OUYA.

not an item of interest for europeans...
NES and SNES games PAL A and B are not supported
MEGADRIVE ( the european genesis ) also not supported
FAMICOM ok
GBA ok..but who interested ?

why not a Colecovision/MSX/Sega sg-1000/Atari2600-7800-xl/Intellivision all in one ??? Our consoles more rare to find and the homebrew scene VERY active. So we could store our old systems to the shelves...

At 15 Euro available here in chinese shops the Nes-Famicom consoles with both 60 and 72 pins and the Nes read both european and US games. This is a good investment.

Strange that EU games wouldn't be supported, as it's essentially an emulation device - i am sure that could be changed with a software update.

It most likely has to do with the EU tv's ive always heard its a big problem because the system has to out put a in a diff Signal, and use a diff amount of energy

But with emulation devices it shouldn't matter. Most, if not all emulators have an option of forcing the refresh rate of games, so you can play PAL games with NTSC framerates and vice-versa.

I'm almost certain that you're wrong. Hyperkin has stated that the Retorn5 will play PAL games. And I think a LOT of people are interested in perfect GB, GBC and GBA support!

Why not a Colecovision/MSX/Sega sg-1000/Atari2600-7800-xl/Intellivision all in one ???

because none of those systems have a strong enough global retro following at the casual level. In order to be profitable, systems like the Retron5 can't only be sold to the hardcore retro gaming crowd because the niche is too small. These things also need to sell to people who buy these kinds of things on a whim with nostalgia in mind. The likelihood of such people even knowing what the MSX or SG-1000 are is remote.

It's for the same reason Hyperkin and RetroBit haven't released any PC Engine or TurboGraphix16 clones even though they easily could. Hardcore retro gamers would have interest, but nobody else would.

Of the systems you mentioned Atari 2600 would have the best chances as it was very popular worldwide and there's a line of successful "Flashback" clones, but even that's not likely worth the R&D.

At 15 Euro available here in chinese shops the Nes-Famicom consoles with both 60 and 72 pins and the Nes read both european and US games. This is a good investment.

Those are obviously Famiclones. Famiclones are almost 100% of the time inferior to the original hardware because of inaccuracies inherent in NOACs.
