Dolphin was the code name for the Gamecube during development, and the name became synonymous with the Gamecube/Wii Emulator of the same name.
Falconhood:
weird, it was also going to be the 32 bit system, but they skipped it because of a breakthru and went straight from 16 to 64, which was unexpected.  I always wanted that Dolphin, it was cartridge based, and looked alot like a NeoGeo system from the released pictures in the old game magazines I read.
I was getting it mixed-up with another AQUATIC name "The Sega Neptune was also announced as a standalone version of the 32X, but ultimately canceled"
But, wasn't there going to be a 32 bit Nintendo machine that was cancelled due to N64?

What? It can handle something like that? I didn't think it had nearly enough power for GCN/Wii emulation.
Of course, the only reason to use the Dolphin is to play games at 1080p. Can the Ouya do that?

Nintendo was working to make a CD based peripheral to attach to the SNES, similar to the Genesis and the Sega CD. Eventually that deal evolved into Philips CD-i and the Sony Playstation, while Nintendo abandoned CDs in favor of the faster loading carts.

No. The Virtual Boy which was 32bit though. The Gamecube was also 32bit, and it was codenamed the Dolphin, and so is the Wii. So you aren't far off with a 32bit dolphin, just with the timing.

And it depends on whether or not they optimize the Emulator for the Ouya's architecture. They got Super Mario 64 running at near full speed on the PSP, so yea.
Falconhood:
so, the Game Cube was inferior to N64?
That makes no sense to me.
