Ok, so are emulators as good as the original? Is there a marked difference? I guess my question is, if you have the original system and it works fine do you really need a Retron?

I have pretty much every classic gaming system (I'm missing a few obscure systems). To me, they are collectors items and I keep them stored away. I got my Retron 5 today and I love it!

1.) The emulation is better than the original game systems performance. All games run at 60 fps. Original game systems only ran at 30 fps.
Master System games are emulated with the FM chip.
2.) I enjoy playing on the couch instead of playing emulators on a PC.
3.) I like using real cartridge roms or I feel guilty.
4.) Saves space under my TV.
5.) Looks great on an HD TV. Classic game systems look like shit on an HD TV.
6.) You don't have to put wear and tear on a classic gaming system.
7.) I now have a simple way to play Nintendo's portable games on my TV.

It's perfect.

I agree with all these points. Not to mention is is a major, major space saver.

That's something I'm surprised more people don't talk about.  Just the savings of space on power strips alone is amazing.
If they added wireless control pads that were usable, it would have been really amazing for cleaning up.

For me it hasn't saved space yet. (But it soon will). The main reason is because they are still a few firmwares away from me saying "close enough!".

The last few firmwares have brought amazing compatibility increases. But  a small handful of essential titles (Mega Man X for example) are still quirky.

Very interesting.  I still plan to just install the TV out mod, but I'm wondering how the picture quality will look between the two.
Maybe, just once, someone will call me "sir" without adding, "you're making a scene."

I had not seen this news. I don't have any Game Gear games currently, but perhaps I should start looking into getting some. I'm sure there are some gems I'm missing out on.

I don't like how the TV out mod only uses a tiny box in the centre of the screen.  Hopefully it will be scalable on the retron

Apples to apples, you'd want to run the GGTV thru at the very least a linedoubler if not a high quality upscaler to get a real comparison.

I still want that mini-SMS GG consolization mod... so badly.

I spoke to my Hyperkin sales rep about 6 months ago and asked about adapters. Its a no-brainer as the system really only needs to be able to download the rom. They did mention to me they were working on a Game Gear adapter since it uses the same emulator as Master System. They specifically stated they are NOT working on a TurboGrafx adapter.
