I find the Power Base Converter support particularly interesting... especially since I'm not sure how it'll fit on the system.

As this is getting closer to release i'm getting tempted. I don't have any of my older gen systems hooked up in the living room currently (those are in the game room). If i got this i could save a lot of space and get my old games in the same room as i am most of the time.

That sucks you need the power base converter to use SMS games. Since this is an emulation machine they only really need the correct pin output/input to make it work. I may hold out until the Retron 6 or 7 comes out. If it'll play SMS natively and maybe throw in n64 and i'll be 100% sold.  :P

I won't be surprised if Hyperkin makes their own Power Base Converter accessory for the thing. It'd be killing two birds with one stone, since it'd work on actual Genesis machines as well.

Although that sounds cool, i don't think they will make one. Based upon their track record.  However, they did find it important enough to delay the release until December. So maybe I am wrong.

I don't think there is a big enough market to have SMS natively. An adapter would be nice though.

I'd like to hear at least a couple reviews before I plunk down for one, but if the system is as good as I hope it will be then this will be a great way to consolidate the setup and cut down a bit on the nest of cables behind it.

I had the same question a few weeks ago.  The guy at my local game store (who usually knows his stuff) said that it had something to do with the copyright.  The patent on N64 tech is still in effect, where as NES, SNES etc have expired.  no idea why GBA has expired if N64 hasn't yet, but if it's true, it may explain why N64 has been missing from all of these retro remakes.

The bigger disappointment than the lack of N64 is the lack of 32X support, since the 32X carts have the same pin-out as Genesis carts.

The reason, sadly, is that nobody's made a decent 32X emulator for Android yet. Thankfully, the Retron 5 will do firmware updates, so once someone makes a 32X emulator Hyperkin can just patch it in.

That would be cool as I've always been curious about the 32x. I want to try Doom32x

Patents typically expire 20 years after creation. My guess is the N64 will expire somewhere around 2015-16. Not sure why the GBA is available. It could have something to do with the original Game Boy patent.

Famicom Disc System? I very highly doubt it.
