Sad day
Arseen:
I too have the slim model, and I like it.
I do have also have the old phat one but it does not have PS2 support (no EU one has).
The only 3 things that the phat one has that the slim lacks are: 2 extra USB ports, Wlan and memory card readers.
None of those are super important so I'm happy with the slim.
Also my phat's blue ray drive is broken.

Sure there was no PS2 playback...thats why I have my PS2...but the PS2 is not in HD. I have this

got it for my Dreamcast, and its fickle with the Dreamcast's VGA signal, but it works beautifully with my PS2, or anything with a component connection. the games that run in 480i are foggy, but the 480p ones are....excellent.
of course, there is the emulation route, if you absolutely have to play PS2 in HD.

I had a launch 60gb, never played it, sold it before it when they were worth something (i.e. when they announced no more BC). I'm happy I did too. Have a slim and love it. No stupid impossible to keep clean glossy top, smaller, WAY quieter, etc.
I've got like 5 PS2s. I don't really need a PS3 to play those games :P

Nice! I've been thinking about sending this busted 60GB I have here in for a refurb. Might be worth it. I'm sure as hell not gonna fix it. I opened that thing up, took one look at the gutty-wuts, and was like "F that!" That thing is a dense, DENSE box of electronics. Ick.

When my disc got stuck, I watched some youtube vids on how to disassemble it. Getting a jammed disc out is no minor operation.
Check this
Tried this and it did not work http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wlgIKnlFs2Q
Then watched this and thought. Hell No Am I Taking That Damn Thing Apart. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Am0q9R37AmY

It's going to cost me 125 euros to get it fixed by Sony - so not too bad. Suspect they will just ship me a refurb unit.
Does anyone have any experience of sending a PS3 with upgraded HDD to sony for repairs? Did you remove the HDD first, or send it in and get the same one back?
I'm thinking remove it, but i cant put my hands on the original 40GB drive that came with it.
