I actually had the same question not too long ago.  Got an SP basically for free, but it was all scratched up and had half peeled stickers on all over it.  Worked great, but looked ugly as all heck.  Luckily, I found out that you can actually buy a new shell for you SP.

eBay's gonna be the easiest place to find them.  Just search for "GameBoy SP Shell" and it should bring up a beavy of listings in different colors.  Or head on over the Nintendo Repair Hut (a quick google search would give you the link.  That's where I got mine and am very pleased with it.  It even came with the little Nintendo logo for the front and a new info sticker for the back.

Those replacement cases are actually pretty nice.  Well, at least the one I got was.  The quality is very close to the real thing (most people wouldn't be able to tell the difference).  The only issues with them is that the colors sometimes don't perfectly match the original Nintendo line, but you'd be changing the entire shell anyhow, so that shouldn't be an issue.  And once in a while you'll run into a screw hole that feels a bit small/tight when installing the new shell, but again, that's not a major problem.  I haven't installed my own new shell yet, but I did one for a friend and it was reall quite easy.  Did need a tri wing screwdriver, but those are easy to find online.

Well, it sounds like it would just need repainting. As easy as that sounds its not since there is 2 different colors of grey. Then the painted on bars on the top. Also the sticker of the old controller around the buttons.

I've got one myself that I bought in bad shape for a high price unfortunately. And when I have more time and supplies I'm going to redo my own.

It would be time consuming and may cost a lot for someone to do a "good" job redoing it, I wouldn't trust just anyone to do it. I do know that Wiggy would do a good job refreshing it for you but he has got a lot going on. Wouldn't hurt to ask him though.

If you want to buy a new one you looking to pay at least $60 for one that in good shape unless you find someone willing to do a trade.

It's your choice but In my honest opinion, I would just try to live with it for now.

ebay gba housing are usually the cheapest, just make sure the glass piece is also includedl in the package . must seller sell this separate but some are included on the housing kit. you can find some not so common colors kits like white and gold and that would be pretty nice.. ;D

I think I have a way to give it a pretty decent restore if you're interested.  As in restored to the NES graphic/color scheme.

As did I, took way longer than I expected.
Shame on you Wiggy for being so slow.

Hey, I'm only one guy!  Only so much I can do in a day :P

Anyway, I'm not yet 100% sure about the effectiveness of the process that I'm thinking of for this application, but once some supplies arrive this week I'll have a better idea of what I can do for it :)

And besides, I was playing Resident Evil on the 'cube at 2:45am (when this was first posted), so cut me some slack ;)

Not sure.  Lemme take a look at the process that I'm thinking of using when the materials arrive (hopefully this week).  I'll post up something about it when I give it a go on this project I have sitting here :)
