Two of my friends want to start up a web show with me where they play games and stuff, The first being Minecraft.
Me being the most talented with computers is in charge of all the technical stuff involving the show, later episodes where we play console games will most likely be recorded at my house as well.

Anyway, Does anyone know of any good cheap or free screen recorders, ones like Fraps or Hypercam?
Also anyone know of any good screen capture cards for systems?

I'd love to know about stuff like this, too. I want to do video tutorials and reviews for YouTube.

the roxio ones do HD;

I've only heard bad things about Roxio's capture devices. In particular, the top one of the two linked, will capture from an "HD" input (component), but will not record the footage in HD.

I have heard good things about that...there is also the Haupauge HD PVR2, which does HDMI....but you do need a computer nearby to record the footage.

That one is a card for your computer, which can be used as a pass through on your computer, in lieu of fraps...or you can use it for consoles via the HDMI in.

Currently I record console footage with a Standard Def Hard Disc PVR with combo DVD burner...but for my current lets play, I am using an emulator and recording in 720p via fraps, and getting good results from it.

  • Think off-center.
I use this for on-desktop recording.

For capture card you cant go wrong with Happague cards or the hd-pvr 2 as scarmullet recommended.

That Camstudio looks good at first glance, I'll check it out this weekend.

I found this weird box called the "Pinnacle PC TV Deluxe" That can apparently record things of of a composite video input. Its old, 2002 or something but i may give it a try before buying something.

Thanks everybody! I'll look into expensive video recorders when I have money, for now I'll try and use this thing I found.

EDIT: Apparently that PCTV thing is not the best choice:
