but to answer the question, its easy to make a little samson cart, it need a mmc3 (mapper 4) donor with 1x27c010 and 1x27c020, it takes actually the same thing to make a mother on the nes, tho i was tempted to make repro of the expensive carts for myself, tho it takes the fun out of hunting for games, tho so far i sold alot of zelda parallel worlds, on the back of the cart it's clearly marked  its a repro game of a hack of zelda link to the past, tho not sure if collectors/retro players are stupid or something, some of them actually thought Parallel worlds was an original game..... if you have any questions on repro carts send me a pm, spend the last 5 months doing reaserch, (while juggling the fact im a new dad also) and im still on standbuy on a project arseen asked me, but i need to further my research on tsop chips...... (looks at arseen, im in trouble now arnt i?)

This.

I share Madcrocsz's stance on repros; I'm all for unreleased/translated/ROM hacks, but not at all about retail repros.  Mostly because of what Zeanhaven said.  The only thing I enjoy more than the hunt is modifying crap.  Taking that away would really suck a TON of the joy out of this hobby for me.

I know some times people can be super buzy, like I still haven't had time to up one single easy scan of Genesis game.

Nope, you said it's gonna take time.
And you're only only one who has said that it might be possible...

[expects finish carts with in a week] 8)

I'm still dying to see if those carts are possible as well!

As someone who put out some serious cash to own a legit copy of Little Samson I would be annoyed if reproductions which were indistinguishable from a legit copy hit the market.

First off I will say that I don't care if the value of the game drops to less that what I paid.  I have a budget for collecting that I stick to so the money isn't a big deal.  If Samson got a 3ds remake and it dropped the market value of the game so be it.

I just think it would wreck the collector market and the fun of the hobby if there was an added burden of trying to figure out if what you are buying is real or not.

Also, like others have said, the thrill of the hunt would be diminished and if you did find a copy in the wild how do you know if it's official or not?

If someone wants to experience the game on the original hardware (which I totally get) they can:

1. get one of those retrozone power pack things

2. look for an international version which may be cheaper as there is not much text in the game and acquire an international system or get a converter

3. I would support a repro if the fact that it was a repro was marked on the shell, the inside of the cart, and on the label, and the label had different art work than the retail release

As others have stated, I'd prefer repros be limited to games that were not released here (North America) especially for text heavy games such as RPGs where understanding the dialogue in the game is necessary to complete it.

If anything, I would say if you really had to have a "Little Samson" repro just to play it on real hardware, why not just make it a repro of the japanese version "Lickle" (which is still pretty expensive). Then it would CLEARLY be recognizable as a repro since it was only titled "Lickle" in japan, and there would be no bullshit/confusion involved.

Both versions of the game are still the same and there really is no text anyway. Plus a repro maker would most likely feel more comfortable building you a Lickle reproduction over a Little Samson anyway because there would be no risk factor involved if someone ever tried to abuse it somehow by selling or whatever. And you wont be so frowned upon for getting a repro of the game either because no one ever really seems to care when you get a repro of a Japanese game. Its when you start making repros of games that were officially released in the US that you start striking nerves.

It would be a good alternative that could make everyone happy and more comfortable at the end of the day. The same could also be done for Panic Restaurant if you go with a repro of the english translation of the japanese version "Chef Cookie in Gourmet World".

As much as I would love to own Little Samson, I will never pay what people are asking for it. The idea of being able to buy it as a reproduction is appealing to me for that reason. However, I share the sentiment in this thread that it's not a good idea, and shouldn't be done. Instead I'll wait to see if the bottom ever falls out and prices come down on games like Little Samson.

I think the market will level out some but don't feel  value on certain games will be affected as much simply due to them being a bit more uncommon and people that pick them up for collecting purposes tend to keep them in the collection which in turn means less copies floating around.

Just look at how much these games have went up. For any of those who watch the game chasers, just a few years ago they found both flintstones and little samson (which maybe the spike in prices are due to their popularity) and at the time the values were 1/5 what they are now give or take

Or buy a cheap used wii, hack it, and play your nes games on that.

I use it alot when I have people over and we want to play something quick.

I don't feel too bad doing it since I own about 2/3 of NES library and I'd 95% of the time we are playing a game I already own.

I actually (unwittingly) purchased a counterfeit Lickle off of eBay from a Seller in Portugal.  Yes, embarassed that I got dupped but it was relatively cheap and in the end, it plays great, so no complaints.  Do wish I had the real NES deal, but rather have the cash at this point.

its funny to consider that aside the fact that little samson came out late in the us that the reason it didnt sell well was due to it's name and people attributing it to maybe something from the bible. However if it was named lickle over here it would just be a giant joke as us Americans are quite immature lol

I'm sure you're right about that. Which is sad. I might just have to bite the bullet eventually. If so, games like that will be the last I add to my collection.

Lots of good opinions and points on both sides of the issue here. I am ok either way honestly. If someone is willing to make a repro of this game as well as a few others they are more than welcome to contact me if it will be priced reasonably. I have been considering getting the Famicom versions of some of these games as well since they are a bit less expensive. Sort of the same way I get some PC Engine versions of games instead of TG-16.

I have been considering a Powerpak or something like that but I like having the carts for some reason. I will admit I have a Harmony cart for Atari 2600 but I don't get into those games as much as NES and beyond.

Like I said I respect peoples opinions on both sides and its nice to see people being able to express them in a civil manner here on this forum.

It didnt get a whole lot of advertising either which didnt help. What alot of people dont know is that Takeru was a small company formed by former Capcom employees that left sometime after working on Mega Man 1 to form their own company so they could have total freedom in developing their games. They also made Cocoron, and if you'e played Cocoron or Little Samson, it not hard to tell. Its too bad people didnt know this, or it could have really helped the sales.

Takeru certainly knew what it takes to make great games for the NES. Both Cocoron and Little Samson sport great graphics, music and gameplay that could top most releases and its a shame that such a small company with such a focus on great polished action platforms had to die due to lack of sales and publicity. There was even a Cocoron 2 in the works for the PC Engine that was canceled. Damn...

Most repro carts are for Japanese only releases that have been translated to English or other special circumstances. Most likely you will not find a repro cart on regular releases. I personally would like to get Terranigma, the Firemen, Clocktower, and Secret of Mana 2 for SNES. I haven't found a place that does repro carts for standard release games, common or rare, doesn't matter.

Not sure you really need a repro for Firemen. I have the SFC cart and its very playable from what I can tell. Unless it has gotten more expensive.

If your still looking you can probably find a Chinese pirate famicom version. They are pretty god awefully looking lol but you could play it on original hardware and put it on a shelf =D
