Hey all,

I was curious about the amount of work that would be required to make the current Sega Genesis game inserts fit the dimensions of an actual Sega Genesis game case.  The Genesis game case seems pretty close in shape and size to the Universal Game Cases that this site's templates are set up for.  Would it require an extensive amount of re-working?  I greatly appreciate all the work and effort that goes into this site, but my OCD compels me to ask this question.  No disrespect is intended.

I've actually been wondering this myself, as I also have a few spare Genesis game cases lying around... well, okay, actually only one, but I'd like to make use of it. :P

You would have to take a existing cover... Split it into front, back and spine in a graphics program(e.g. photoshop,gimp,paint.net, etc.... , NOT mspaint in windows) then resize the front, back and spine individually to the right dimensions for a genesis case and finally put the three back together....

Voila.... If you know your ways in photoshop it's a work of 5-10 minutes.....

I would not mind seeing original size Genesis covers appear on the site. Same with SMS. If I upload some would that be ok?

Sorry but on our site afaik only covers for Genesis and Master System are hosted which are sized for Universal Game Cases.... That was brought up as a standard a long long time ago....

I have to say, I'd like to see some original covers go up for Genesis games also. Definitely not make them the standard, as you can't buy them anymore, but it would be nice to have the original cover for each game in case yours gets damaged.

there nearly the same size anyway, so it doesnt really matter.  most of my games had the cases, and i just took out the insert and placed it into the ugc case, and it looks normal.  the only difference is the new covers are slightly wider.  so if you wanted to place them in the old genesis case, you either have to trim it a little more or just change it in photoshop.

Other systems permit multiple sizes of covers. Ie. Dreamcast has CD and DVD, Saturn has Slimline and fullsize DVD. Why could this not be permitted for the SMS or Genesis? Are we running out of storage space?

Everyone can just download the UGC covers and change them to their likeness... Why host double the covers???

I know with Dreamcast and PS1, there is a dramatic difference in size between the CD and DVD covers, with Genesis/SMS the difference is just too small to host both. Also, you can buy DVD and UGC cases on bulk, as far as I know, you can't buy new Genesis cases.

As to the Saturn slimline/full-size, I believe that was a project brought over from another site, by MookyJooky if I recall correctly.

We can host covers in both sizes. Go ahead and start uploading them. I'll add the original Genesis as a case option.

Just saw Snowcone's reply now.  That is excellent!  Having inserts to fit genuine Genesis cases would be great.  I can't wait to get Comix Zone, Vectorman 1 and Vectorman 2 into cases with inserts.  It sucked that Sega cheaped out near the end of the Genesis' lifespan and moved to boxes for packaging their games.  It will now be rectified.  Woo!  ;D

What is the size difference between the original case and Genesis cases. I thought some of these covers looked like they had been cropped. If they were only resized by a few pixels then I can see the reason this wasn't wanted.

*insert necro post comment here*  ::)

I didn't want to start a new topic is there was something remotely relative to the question I'm about to ask.

I'm just wondering if anyone has a better casing solution for casing Mega Drive/Genesis games rather than using UGC, or buying Sega clam shells? Mega Drive games, while they fit in UGC, they don't fit very well and end up going all over the place and end up being sat all lob sided. This bugs me to no end. I got to the point where I'd rather just use poly sleeves rather than UGC. I want to case them up, but not if that means using UGC.

So... Any suggestions?

Cut some foam strips and hot glue 'em in there to help keep those suckers put maybe.  Cheap, easy, effective ;)
