That sounds great. There isn't a great way to play retro games on current HD TV's. I'm excited about this.

I'm definitely interested in checking it out but nothing is gonna beat playing games on their original consoles

That's pretty cool.  I'll want to see more details when they release it.  Like if the GBA slot will function like a GBA (meaning backwards compatible with GB/GBC games.  Then it would almost definitely be worth picking up.  I also like the wireless controller idea, but depending on what style controller it is could make or break it for me.  I really like that I can plug my old SNES controllers into my Retro Duo right now.

I've posted about this on several other forums already, so I'll just go over some of the basic beats.

There are far too many questions regarding this thing to count it as the coolest thing ever. Hyperkin has a history of making extremely flawed clones, has horrible customer service and is very slow to implement revisions that fix problems, and when they do their fixes create other problems. Damned if they do damned if they don't.

The biggest questions for me are

Just what is being fed through HDMI? the Genesis and SNES had RGB encoders which technically can be adapter to support a 240p component signal, which can then be adapted to HDMI. 240p might not sound like much, but this is pretty much what you'd get out of arcade machines back in the day and much better than anything a vintage TV can produce.

GBA is a question, since the video output was intended for a 2.6" LCD, not a tv at all. The GB Player can output 480p, but that's tied with the GameCube hardware.

Just what will they do with the NES side? Will it simply be a composite signal being fed through HDMI as Hyperkin fed a composite signal through the S-Video cable of the RetorN3? Will it be some sort of new NOAC that supports HD resolutions? Will it be software based like the AtGames Genesis portable devices?

GBA support is already possible through various GBA clones, but GBA clones are illegal because the patients of the GBA are far from being expired. If Hyperkin releases this thing with GBA support, they run the serious risk of being sued by Nintendo. That aside, how will GBA games control? Will they be full screen or be windowed like the GB Player? Doubtful, but will it play GB/GBC games?

These and many other questions loom over the RetorN4 like a dark cloud. I'm excited for it's potential, but there needs to be a lot more information provided and given Hyperkin's abysmal history they need to prove themselves king of clones, which they are currently not.

He gets credit for the idea. With the RetroN 4 coming out, it could spur some awesome 8 and 16 bit original titles.

I wonder if the Retron4 will be able to support chip games unlike its predecessors? I remember being heartbroken when I couldn't play Super Mario RPG. Made me immediately go out and buy a original snes lol

I agree with you. I haven't commented on the thread because of the old saying "if you don't have anything nice to say its better not to say anything at all."

That's just your revision of Mario RPG. There are many, some that will play on clones and some that will not. Made in Mexico copies tend to be 1.1 or 1.2 revisions that will not. That's probably what you have. If you're good at micro surgery, there's a mod you can do to bypass the game's built in lock out that keeps it from working on copying devices of the same vintage and modern clones.

I am interested in this device, especially if it plays GBA games well, as well as GB and GBC. Gameboy players are getting scarce....ok the devices are common enough, but the discs seem to be finding their way to Oz. $15 for a GB player, add $30 and you got the disc. If it works, it could be a nice alternative. Hell, doesn't the Super Gameboy work on the Retron 3? Even if the GBA slot cant play GB and GBC you can still play GB games through the super gameboy.

Given that existing GBA clones do not play GB and GBC, I doubt that the ReotrN4 will either. Still, Hyperkin has made no announcement about this, so it's only an educated guess.

I'm definitely up for getting one of these for my lounge.  Original consoles are in the games room, but would be great to get a quick fix in the lounge sometimes.  And if gba can run at lose to full screen (I know it'll look terrible), I'd be a happy chappy.
