Do you have to install the game on the PS3 hardrive then have the disc in the system to play the game like the Okami HD disc? I am just wondering because I am thinking about buying this game sometime.

Yes, exactly as you said. You fully install the disc, and need it in the drive to play.

does it have anything over the jap ps2 collection with more games? the ps3 version only touts lousy 2xsai upscaling.

If you have a PS3, you can go download the trial now. What it has over the PS2 collection is that it's filtered in HD.
