I was thinking about switching to DVD cases and getting rid of the jewel cases but i have a few questions to the people who have done this

1) what do you do about the games with multiple discs?
2) does the value go down?
3) what do you do with the original artwork?

Thanks in advance

1. Buy multi disc DVD cases?
2. Errr...I don't know how to answer this. Most here buy loose games.
3. Keep it in a binder or something.

Yes, the value of a game goes down when you don't have the original printed covers and inserts.

pondering making dvd-size cases for my psx collection. the stuff that's left over, i'd just do the same to them as i do with all my dupes: dismantle them into binders, boxes and carry cases. long as you don't get rid of them "value" shouldn't be a factor. you can have your collection look however you want it, and if you need them to be CIB again for some reason, just reassemble.

Yes, the value of a game goes down when you don't have the original printed covers and inserts.

And that's why you also save the original packaging... thus the value does not go down... Not that anyone here would sell their collection...

I wouldnt throw anything away, you might find yourself regretting it down the road.

However if you don't wish to keep it or store it. You could always sell it on ebay there are always people looking for that sort of stuff.

I don't care for the jewel cases as they are just too fragile and are difficult to move. DVD cases are sturdier and look cleaner.

Glad someone out there is feeling the same as I do.

DVD cases are much easier to look upon and more sturdy then shaq-fu-ier jewel cd cases.

1) what do you do about the games with multiple discs?
Micro Center and other places sell multi disc cases that are the standard size of most DVD cases

2) does the value go down?
As long as you keep original cases, no.  Because you can always just put them back into the cd cases when you want to sell.

3) what do you do with the original artwork?
Store them in a box and make sure you don't lose them XD

A big bonus of this is that I plan on making PS1 dvd cases that are all black spine, and I custom made dreamcast dvds which I'll use orange cases. :3

I'd love to give feedback on these since I'm considering wanting to start these.  :P  Message me Kaysow!

I was thinking of making a custom spine similar to the striped spines on almost all the other SEGA systems.

You might also want to consider using jewel case-sized poly cases instead. They're a pretty great replacement for the original jewel cases because they're about the same size. Personally something just doesn't feel right about putting PS1 games in full-size DVD cases. I feel the poly cases are a more natural replacement of the jewel cases since you can use the original case artwork with the added advantage of being more durable and nicer looking on a shelf. There's a few different ones, the 8-disc poly cases are quite popular though personally I prefer these smaller poly cases. I was able to order mine off Amazon in both double-disc and multi-disc sizes for really cheap (I only ended up paying about 22 bucks for about 45 cases plus shipping).

That link is to ones without the artwork overlay.

I was going to get those for my PS1 games, I made a few covers for them that are available in my Box account below.
I currently have 3 DC games, and I kinda want all my Sega stuff the same height, sense they all have a color.
Red- Genesis
Orange - Dreamcast
Yellow - 32X
Green - Maybe Master System
Blue - Sega CD
Purple - Game Gear
White - Saturn
Black - Maybe  Master System
If I get more DC games, I may switch to Poly Case, I like retail covers, and do not like how DVD cases stretch the art.
Anything is better than jewel cases.

I have my PS1 and 3DO games in DVD Black Cases. You can buy Quad disc cases off of eBay, Amazon, wherever but I only buy those by the 10s not 100 cases due to there not being a whole slew of multi disc games to make 100 necessary. Same for Dreamcast but I just used White as the Orange I found didn't quite match the orange of the Dreamcast logo.
