So Sony announced the new PS4 at some Sony convention.
Some quick info found be found HERE or below:
DualShock 4 has touch pad, Headphone Jack, and light for PS Move.
Used BluRays.
Will support used games.
Suspend/ Sleep mode.
Stream game play, post to Facebook, let other players play your game through streaming.
Remote play with Vita.
No data transfer of backwards compatibility from the PS3, until further notice.

Thoughts?

I am interested, but I'm probably not going to buy one at launch, I still need a WiiU, and a PS3.
It seems to me that Sony is going after Nintendo more than Microsoft, They released a video on IGN showing off all the IPs they got, trying to show up Nintendo's.

Also thoughs on the Xbox?
I hear it will force you to use Kenect 2.0, each one will come with one. When will Microsoft learn no one likes the Kenect? Maybe it will force developers to make good games for the thing.
And, I swear if Microsoft calls the next Xbox the "Xbox 720" . . .

Looked OK, but nothing to be said yet until final design and facts are revealed and someone actually has played it.

Dualshock 4 seems to have the same flaw that was really only flaw of Dualshock 3: the L2/R2 desing.

Knack looked nice, as did Bungie's Halo Destiny

I doubt I'll pick one up, to be honest, regardless of the price.  I have a Wii U and barely have enough time to play all the games I have for that as it is, not including the ones coming out that I will be picking up (I've heard Monster Hunter is quite an addictive timesink and it comes out next month), so I really wouldn't have time for more than one console, and since I'm a born-and-raised Nintendo junkie I went with Wii.  Besides, it seems a lot of the muscle-flexing is about the PS4's social capability and hardware specs, and I already have something that can do social media and play FPS games called a "PC" (which could definitely use an upgrade, but I digress ;D ).  I'll miss out on Gran Turismo and Final Fantasy, but them's the brakes as they say.

Still curious how much this thing will cost at launch, though.  Given the specs they're boasting, I can't see it being that cheap unless they're planning on selling it at a loss.

The system itself doesn't seem too impressive. I'm not a fan of all the social networking things going on.
The ability to stream to a Vita to play or to a phone for maps seems like they're trying to replicate Nintendo's two screens thing.
In the end it is the games that sell me and I wasn't interested in a single one they showed off. I have no interest in getting one.

The ability to stream to a Vita to play

Problem with this is you can already do it with a ps3 so its not new.

Nothing that was revealed made me want the system. At least not right at launch. My ps2 collection is large. PS3...not so much. Playstation for me has become a First party machine. Unless they have some Bad Ass Awesome games coming to the PS4 Exclusively....I won't bother for a while

Not exactly. You can do this with a handful of games but it is very limited. Even with a hacked ps3 there aren't a whole lot of games you can stream. The plan is with the PS4 is to have ALL games streamable. Pretty cool feature but I have a WiiU ...

Well - seeing as i am complelled to buy every new console, I WILL be getting one.  Just hope it doesn't gather as much dust as my 360, 3DS, Vita and WiiU.

I love the PS3 - and have invested heavily in it (Both retail and PSN) - I am pissed that the PS4 isn't backwards compatible - I don't buy the BS they are saying about the different architecture making it difficult.  It's such a powerhouse, it could definitely run emulated PS1/2 games without any problems - they just want to force you into buying new games for the new system.  Understandable as that's where they make their cash, but still annoying.  I would also shell out on an optional add on that made it backwards compatible if they made that available - but that will never happen.

Also, the PS3 pad is in my opinion the best pad I have ever used, so I hope they haven't messed around with it too much.

Surprise surpise. Nothing groundbreaking, trying to copy the WiiU. What else?

Still will get one but not on launch day as I got my WiiU.

+ a step forward in tech
+ the "issue" of used games has been passed on to the publishers
+ pc architecture mean it's easy to port for, and the whole thing'll be easy to emulate in the future

- backwards compatibility left out in order to sell you a streaming service (and inevitable "PS3 Classics" goddamnit)
- the hardware that could've gone to BC or even MORE power is instead used for better facebook integration

could go either way. i got a ps3 in 2008 for MGS4, so i don't mind holding out. right now it sounds ok, tho bloated as fuck, but there's still more to reveal and it doesn't look like anything they have left to say could be to it's benefit.

EDIT: watched the conference and it just made me sad. technical progress for the longest time has meant more explosions and polygons, when you could use the additional tech to up framerates & resolutions or just have more complex stuff going on all at once. now additional horsepower will be squandered away on useless shit like recording your gameplay to post on facebook when all modern games play the same every time anyway and nothing you record will be unique in any shape or form anway. *sigh*
also: the infamous guy tells it like it is how surveillance is scary and oppresive, when minutes before they've told us we'll get a camera monitoring us and psn is gonna learn you spending habits, and using anything but your full IRL name is discouraged now.

I am most likely not be buying one at launch... No Backward Compatible >:(... I'll just stick with my current ps3.. I bought the wii & wiiU on released Date but never the PS3 I waited close to 2 years before I did and I bought a used 60gb from gamestop and it's still running...(a few times it has frozen)...I will probably do the same with the PS4, not fan of social media features..

They've been saying for a long time that graphical leaps will get narrower and narrower with every generation.  It doesn't surprise me one bit that the jump isn't significant.  One very small thing that I am excited about is basic PC architecture.  Like the original Xbox, this should make it VERY easy for developers to squeeze a lot more out of the PS4 than they would had Sony gone 100% proprietary as they've always done in the past.

Don't know if you recall the PS optimization software that Sony eventually released to 3rd party developers near the end of the PS1 lifespan, but it really opened the doors to things that nobody thought was possible with the hardware.  That's what Sony used when developing Gran Turismo, which was a technical masterpiece at the time.  Was nearly moot though, since the PS2 was right around the corner.  And speaking of, I'm sure we've all heard the stories about how difficult it was to program for the PS2 :(  This step towards PC-based hardware, while not nearly as "cool" as the super custom chipsets and whatnot, is a good move IMO.  I'm sure Sony has taken a cue from Microsoft, who's machine is seemingly able to keep up with the PS3 on almost all fronts, despite being a good deal older with weaker hardware.  May open the door to a lot more indie devs too, which means more retro-like games, which makes me happy :D

No Backward Compatible >:(

Why is this an issue for people like us?  I hear so many "hardcore" gamers bitch about that all the time.  Who cares?  You've got a PS3, so what does it matter if the next console isn't BC? ???  Not to mention the headache that is moving save files, re-downloading content, etc.
