Nothing wowed me and I sold all my PS3 games and use it only to play blu-ray movies now so I don't think I will get this untill it's been out a few years if at all.

biggest news i took away from it was a home console version of Diablo 3 for Ps3 and Ps4.

Hope that translates to Xbox360 and whatever they announce to compete with ps4 versions as well.

PS4 cloud sounds cool but again its gonna come down to execution. How do i get my ps1, 2 and 3 collection on the cloud so i can play them on PS4?

Think I will wait for a God of War game to land on it before I consider spending the cash.

No Backward Compatible >:(

Why is this an issue for people like us?  I hear so many "hardcore" gamers bitch about that all the time.  Who cares?  You've got a PS3, so what does it matter if the next console isn't BC? ???  Not to mention the headache that is moving save files, re-downloading content, etc.

This.
Only benefit of BC is that you don't have to switch between consoles, but that's not big trouble.

Or if PS4 would make PS1 games look as good as PS4 games...

I agree. BC isnt that important. However the removal of BC that was given to 1st gen PS3 consoles was a bit lame. As was the removal of the other OS functionality.

Dont give only to take away.

Im fine with the cloud model they have briefly proposed. Im more curious on how it works, but again... I will be waiting for compelling software to suck me in, especially if the graphics bump isnt that big.

time to spend money on PC's rather than consoles...
We're facing the end of an era with this generation, there's no extra incentive to buy the new consoles. Whole different story for handhelds, specifically the 3DS which is about to explode in march with great releases  ;D

I didn't think Sony even needed to release a new console yet. I don't see a reason to pick one up. I don't play online much so i don't care one bit about the Social Networking integration. The whole reason I even purchased a PS3 was the Blu-Ray.

I don't see many people upgrading from PS3 to PS4.

As much as Sony's original 10 year life cycle sounded crazy when the PS3 launched, it actually sounds really logical at this point.

There's only 3 instances where backwards compatibility has been a big selling point for me:

-Game Boy series
-DS on 3DS
-Wii on WiiU (I didn't like the notion of having 2 sensor bars and 2 separate sets of Wiimotes and nunchuks)

I'm seeing lots of "eh" reactions to the PS4 conference. I think the general gaming populace is becoming more interested in quality experiences than hearing about what a system COULD do.

There are 2 more I would like to add:
Gamecube to Wii -- 480p progressive scan
PS1 -- PS2/3 -- 480p/1080p

It is also good for the people who do not have the money to buy the newest games for the system, or has to sell the old system to afford the system, or the old one brakes down. Or for people who did not have the old system to have more games to play, I had a Wii before a GC, and a PS2 before a PS1.

big ass Meh for this announcement , nothing they confirmed wow'd me in the least i allready have diablo 3 . I really think it should be at least backwards compatible with ps3 . what bothers me most is they didnt Confirm/Deny rumors that games will lock to your system, again if they do lock games i see no reason to buy one .

on that subject they've told us the ps4 CAN run used games, hinting vaguely that it'll be up to the publishers to implement restrictions which sony would (i assume) be happy to help them with.

The main thing they were stressing were:
- how easy it will be to develop for (or port to)
- how powerful it is
- how quick it will be (resume game shut off feature, instant play on demos, a second processor just for background downloading, the ability to start downloads from computers/smartphones)
- how you can access your games from anywhere (smart phones, tablets, vita)
- and then you have all the new capture features like always recording your gameplay, jumping in to help a friend play their game, watching your friends play their games.

These are all very very smart important features they needed to get right. Sony has some of the best first party studios around and will have excellent third party support (judging by the massive amount of studios and publishers they already have support from and especially since they allow for self publishing for indie developers).

They put on the table a very healthy powerful environment to create games, and have barely dipped their toes into announcing the massive amount of software support for the system.

If you like playing current games, it really doesn't make sense to count out the PS4. It seems very consumer and developer friendly.

Man that press conference was just so bad.  It was very hard to watch.  Also waaaaaay to long.  I personally thought nothing good came out of it.  Only new info were some specs.  Game wise nothing we didn't already know, although im sure they are waiting for E3 for some bigger stuff.

Only thing I took out of it was Nintendo's stock going up 2% the next day. I love Sony and own all of their previous consoles but I am really unimpressed.

I will get one, thats just how i roll.

People dont seem to understand why the PS4 wont play PS3 games, and yes I know this sucks. The PS3 used the famous cell processors (lol) which was unique and quite proprietary to the PS3 so it meant developers designing games meant they had to make a version just for it as well. The PS4 uses pretty much plain jane PC architecture which 99% of developers design on anyways so it makes it ez mode to then put it on PS4. PS3 games were designed using PS3's architecture therefore it wont work.

Think of it like trying to put unleaded gas in a diesel engine, both are engines per say but it wont work.

Also, fully expect playstation to milk the hell out of downloadable PS3 games.

That said, I am actually quite excited about the PS4, some nice features such as a legitimate sleep function, vita love etc.
