Don't use mr clean magic eraser - use an actual eraser.

My local game store guy says to use ammonia to clean cartridge games.

Sure did, and it looked like most of the problem was excessive dirt on the contacts. One of them may have been missing one, but I don't know what effect that would cause.

Clean your glasses.

If my games are failing to work, I open them up and lightly use a pink eraser, then rubbing alcohol on a qtip.
If THAT fails, I lightly scrub a wire brush and rubbing alcohol. I've only had one game fail on me, and that is Ultimate Frogger Championship for the NES. The thing is brand new and all sorts of messed up. (got it from a friend who couldn't get a refund from retrozone)
