I never owned a Game Cube back in the day, and have recently been picking up a few titles.  Like Mario Sunshine, Pikmin and Wind Waker.

However I noticed that all of the cases, have a strange notch on the bottom right side.  Are these cases missing a plastic latch or something.

At first I thought I had a rental case and this was some type of anti -thief device.  But every game I get has this. So what is it for?

It's just the way the cases were molded; all Gamecube game cases have that. If they don't then someone swapped the cases.

The cases were designed for a lock that would slide into the bottom right of the case, which would lock in place, using a magnet feature. The only way (without breaking it of course) to open it, would be by placing the case on a magnet "key", thus causing the lock to slide out.

I know this because I worked at Blockbuster for a year, and their DVD cases were the same design. Guess Nintendo was being generous with the design so companies wouldn't have to order cases.

Does anyone know where to order gamecube styled cases? I don't care if they are third party cheap plastic crap.

Buy some lame sports titles and trash the games keep the cases.. gamestop had (still if you can find some) Gamecube games for 75% off so buying a few sports games won't cost no more than a dollar each. check your local gamestop..

One minor correction - they weren't *all* molded this way.  The earliest titles did not have the notches for the security latch.  Off the top of my head, I'm not sure when they started using it.

PAL games gon't have this 'feature'.

Also there seems to be at least 3 different NTSC designs in my collection - Legends of wrestling doesn't have any hole, or the vertical channel to put the magnet in.  Universal Studios and NHL Hits 2002 both have the channel, but no hole in the bottom, and all my other NTSC releases have the channel, and the hole.
