CDs aren't obsolete IMO.  Like my games, I'll take a hard copy please :)

Agreed. Same with DVDs/BluRays. Heck, I've even converted some VHS tapes to DVD and still kept the original. (I actually set the DVDs to autoplay when you pop them in, just like VHS, but now with chapter points and a basic "replay" button on a menu at the end). I just feel better having a hard copy of my media if possible.

well, obsolete in the sense of space, I can't carry around the 200 or so I have in the car and interchange them as easily as having my ipod plugged in at all times (car has interface for such). Also the same with listening to music on my comp. Sure you could argue the same about emulators and games but seeing as music you can often tend to bounce from artist to artist, album to album, I don't wish to spend that much time and frustration switching them lol.

Collecting video games is just the latest in a long string of things I collect.

My other collections include:
- The Beatles - Memorabilia, anything and everything to do with the Fabs
- Vinyl records of The Beatles and everything else (Bowie, Zeppelin, Floyd, Sabbath, Purple etc)
- CDs, DVDs and even Videos where DVD doesn't exist, mainly rock music and TV Shows/films from my youth
- Star Wars - Again anything I can get my hands on but I'm mainly into the POTF2 and the (Modern) Vintage Collection lines.
- Pokemon cards - Wizards of the Coast era (I still haven't completed the NEO sets)
- LEGO - This is a big one for me - Star Wars mainly but I recently went through a big phase of collecting the 1989 Pirates series.
- Guitars and memorabilia relating to Guitar/Amp brands (Fender, Gibson, Epiphone & Marshall)
- DC Comics/Graphic novels - I went through a phase of collecting these when the New 52 came out, but I don't really bother with them anymore.
- Books - non-fiction mainly, relating to economics/politics, especially writers like Adam Smith, Thomas Paine, Milton Friedman, and British politics in general

Also I've got lots of clothes - I can't resist an obscure (retro) band t-shirt or a smart button-up shirt with a double cuff if I see one going cheap.

And then anything retro in general that I see in second hand shops.

I go through obsessive phases that last about 2-4 months at a time. Who knows what I'll collect next. The problem is that having so many collections, I haven't really got one that I specialise in - I haven't the quality/quantity of anything worth showing off on YouTube etc.

kaysow:

used to collect movies. had to have all the 4+/5 ready and available on dvd. but since i limited myself mainly to titles between 1980 (a few older ones) and the early 2000s (when alien resurrection and cgi had totally ruined hollywood), that 200+ collection was actually completed. stopped buying movies and started onvidyagames instead. now they're all boxed up in the storage, along with the dvd player. got a few of the essentials on blu-ray (braveheart, ghost in the shell, forrest gump etc), but just like music CDs i'd rather save the space. now i keep all my movies/music/tv series digital.
