28 years old. first off, like rkoredux said; MULTIPLAYER. playing with some pals in the same room is all fine, but WoW is boring as hell, and i don't care about competition much. in 2008 i got way into Left 4 Dead, but that's the one exception.
Halo was a huge thing a while back, and i opted out halfway through the first one. guns look and handled like toys, and the enemies aren't satisfying to kill.
Call of duty was an impressive game, the first one. but i haven't cared much for fpses since halo invented them, and looking where it's gone from there i am not the least bit tempted to ever try the new ones out.
also xbox related: Gears of War. played the entire first game, and the constant barrage of action was just mindnumbing. too much all the time, always peppered with stupid military jargon, and most AAA action games have been doing this since, leaving no room to enjoy the game; just progress from one event to the next, everyone is screaming, everything's exploding. it's all linear and nearly on rails so you don't need to engage your brain at all. i mean i actually have legit adhd and even i'm insulted that my attention span is underestimated this grossly. when this game was over i had no recollection whatsoever what i'd been doing for the last few hours, or why. nothing makes sense but don't you worry, just do as we say and follow the npcs. i hated the pacing of this game and sadly it became the norm.
that's it for modern shit tho. assassin's creed is kinda fun, but the experience is becoming more and more like gears of war. western AAA stuff in general is just not for me anymore i guess, so i try to stick to japanese titles instead. that said;
i could not get into Earthbound. don't know what i'm not getting, but after a few short sessions there was nothing to keep me coming back. so i dropped it. might try again someday.
the last Mario i cared for was Mario 64. sunshine felt childish and gimmicky so i skipped it, the "new" series felt like a shallow nostlgia cash-in, and galaxy is supposed to be good but i can't be arsed to care anymore.
Devil May Cry was alright. harder than it had to be, and generally pretty mediocre. DMC2 tho; i sat through it when i friend played and it is single-handedly the dumbest fucking thing i've ever seen. gameplay is samey and repetitive, enemy designs are uninspired, silly and out-of-place, and the story had me in stitches with it's ludicrous leaps. what, we need to find the last piece? piece to what? we've been gathering something? oh now she's dying? everything was so horribly executed i dubbed it The Single Worst Video Game Ever.
then i saw him play DMC3 which actually looked pretty great. need to try the HD collection someday.
and finally: Fightan Games™. street fighter and mortal kombat came during my gaming dark ages between megadrive and psx. played some neo geo arcade stuff once or twice and it was ok. virtua fighter was quickly dated. tekken added stupid explosion animations to your punches which kinda killed it for me. soulcalibur on the dreamcast was pretty cool, but got old quickly. nothing really grabbed me. altho this is a lie, because blazblue eventually came along and did it right. a story that is slowly revelealed over every character's campaign: genius. that hooked me, so i persevered and enjoyed all of them, even if i don't play it outside of the campaigns. need to get to the guilty gears now as well.
