Yeah, strategy guides do count as a "game", but I only have one in there, and it needs to be removed =D.  Thanks for reminding me =D

So I know exactly what I have. What if my house gets stolen or explodes, what would I tell insurance? I should probably take pictures of everything as well.

It's also nice to have everything organized, I also have my boxes, manuals and what-not written in. I'm a CI collector, and it's nice to know what I need to complete my collection without searching through every case, I only need 1 more Wii manual for Godfather Blackhead Edition to have every game CIB, I'm also very close with all CIB DS games. It helps with me keeping them easily alphabetized, and keep track of the total amount.

This actually makes me seriously consider doing this (on top of good photos of everything).
sheep2001:
photos are a necessity.

i was burgled about 10 years ago (3 times in 3 months actually) and i had to provide photos of pretty much everything for the insurance claim - even photos of me wearing clothes that were stolen!

i only started collecting again a couple of years after that.

I've been thinking about doing this. I'll have to look into all the programs people mentioned.

I've been using an excel spreadsheet for other collectibles I have, like Star Wars figures, and a program called My Movies  for my movie collection on DVD/BluRay (I wouldn't mind finding a better one).
mojoeskateco:
I go with excel for now.

I'd love to use some sort of software but I'm too cheap to pay for it when excel does it for free and I'm an accountant so I use excel for everything!  ;D.

I can't see an insurance company accepting an excel spreadsheet or even simple photos, especially with UGCs.

For example,

I just cased my copy of Flintstones 2 last night and it's on my shelf now with the rest of my cased NES games.  I'm sure the insurance company would want a photo of the actual cart in my possession since anyone could just print out the cover and throw a UGC up on a shelf with no game in it.

That's why I like the pickups thread we have on this site.  It would be a bit stronger proof that I am actually acquiring items for a collection.

I've considered insurance too but the documentation required to actually get paid out would probably be a lot of work.

If I ever was robbed or had a fire or something I'd just be happy with everyone being OK.

Games can be replaced.
