I'm interested to see what they announce. The PS3 never appealed to me, and the 360 only appealed to me for the games Wii didn't have. (personal preference, nothing against these companies)

If they give me a reason to want to get one, then I might. Or it may end up being another 599 U.S. Dollars/Giant Enemy Crab/Riiiiiiidge Racer/Massive Damage fiasco. Either way, I'll be checking it out with great interest.

That could be Hirai blowing smoke as usual.

A Vita slim sounds like a bad move right now, given the Vita as is isn't big and isn't selling anyhow. And remember, the PS2 only ceased production at the end of last year so Sony could easily continue to make PS3s and PS3 games for a while. They aren't Microsoft and Nintendo who retire their consoles months after their new ones arrive.

Announcing a PS4 with no release date to get hype up makes sense. Microsoft may announce at E3 and release by October and Sony will wait till November to see how many people pass up on a rushed Xbox and go for a more perfected PS4.

An Tyrannical, I totally get that. I had all three consoles till very very recently due to them all having certain positives, but for me the PS3 was just a superior machine with more exclusive titles to keep me interested at the end of the lifecycle, that and it played blu rays.

kaysow:

need to know first how they'll handle used games. and backwards compatibility. also, if it'll once again be an unnecessarily complex machine to work with. seeing how they've handled the vita thus far i wouldn't put it past sony to repeat the same mistakes as last time. ever since the psx/ps2 era they appear to have developed a terminal case of hubris.
and this applies to the entire upcoming gen; if they start moving away from physical releases (and especially if the rumors on how they'll handle used games turn out true) i don't see any reason not to just stick with my pc instead for the foreseeable future. it's not like i don't have enough previous gen games to catch up with for decades to come.
i'm sorry - i'd love to not be this cautious about the future of console gaming, and i'd REALLY like to be more enthusiastic about sony's stuff, but i've noticed they're starting to purge the vita from retailers around here, which can't be a good sign. and i can't honestly claim sony doesn't deserve it. here's hoping they get their shit together soon.

Sony has some of the best development studios in the business and the Playstation One is what got me into gaming so you can mark me down as super excited. I get tired of people being so negative. They made mistakes with Playstation 3, but it turned out to be an absolutely amazing console, as was the PS2, as was the Psone.

SasoriSoren:

I am just optimistic. The apparent internals outdo any other console to be released this generation and given they are no longer using the cell processor it won't be a pain in the ass to program for which is what made the PS3 harder to deal with.
