it's crazy how nintendo won't release that in europe. so much value for your money. looking to install homebrew on the wii and start importing stuff like that and trauma team. cubivore too, if you can do gamecube imports.

I'll never understand region locks on consoles .. it's like they don't want money or something.

The great thing about the Wii is that it's easy to hack and load other region free off a hard drive.

A friend sent me xenoblade from the UK when it wasn't looking like it was going to come to NA and I was able to take the physical copy, dump it to the hard drive and play it.

All of my games are on the hard drive which helps with my laziness .. want to switch games?  Don't have to get off the couch ;D

Also I've got NES, SNES, Gameboy, GBA emulators which are great to play something quick and not have to hook up an old system and grab a cart.  This is great for when people are over and see my collection and want to play something .. just fire up the Wii.

Is it because each region has different laws?

If so how is a PS3 region free and not a Wii if they have to follow the same laws?  I guess they could each have different agreements with publishers.

Seriously curious as region locking sounds like a terrible business decision to me and I'm always fascinated by the business world of video games.

If Nintendo had never released Xenoblade here they still would have made something off the legit, paid for PAL copy that I have without incurring the costs of releasing a localized NA version.  In this case, which I realize isn't the only case, they benefited from a no risk - reward situation.
