I assumed as much. However, I don't want to have to mod it. I want to buy something that just works. Fabrication and modding are a last resort for me.

The headphone port on the Model 1 does output Stereo sound so just routing it that way works well with no modifications needed.

Yep, I know that. I'm a bit OCD though and I don't like to have a y-cable coming out of the front.

Run a mini plug to the backside then.  That's how I did my S-vid mod on my Genesis 3 ;)

That's essentially what I'm doing. I'm going to solder some wires from pin 1 and pin 8 on the audio chip and fab some RCA jacks to the back. I just need to figure out what I'm going to do for some other systems I want to run RGB as well. Maybe I'll just get a SCART switcher and be done with it.

Sure, but I will need a good switch for component since that's what it's all converting to. Unless I end up having to use a SCART switch that pulls the audio. I would still need one for the Wii, X-Box, and PS2.
