Hello, my first post here.

I'm MADrigal, webmaster of the CreatiVEmu website, the main source for VTech Creativision fans all over the world.

URL: www.madrigaldesign.it/creativemu/

I have an almost complete collection of boxed Creativision carts, and I also released two homebrew carts: Multicart and Diagnosticart.

I have a request: why not doing new covers for the Creativision games, since the original game boxes are not always easy findings, and there's plenty of people just owning loose carts?

I could provide scans from original game boxes, if needed.

Feel free to contact me via this forum, or via my website. :-)

Welcome to the site.

Do scan the boxes @600DPI, with moire removal, and we'll see what happens.

What should I scan? Front, back and side?

I found the "Upload a Cover" link, but when uploading it asks which system and game title.

Any suggestions?

You can create an account on mediafire or box.net and use the shared link to your scans as signature here on the forums.
As Arseen suggested you should scan the boxes at 300 DPI (600 DPI is strongly recommended); we need the front the back and the left spine (or both if one doesn't content the logo or any relevant information related to the game).
I had no idea that something called Creativision existed so I have no clue of the size of either the boxes or the carts  :-[ This is important to have in mind to what kind of cases the covers will be designed for. For what I have seen in pictures an Universal Game Case should fit a cart OK.

Looking forward for your scans!

I did something better: I put a zipped file on my FTP server.

The "test" scan is at: www.madrigaldesign.it/creativemu/scans/cv_astro_pinball_300dpi.zip

The archive contains: front, back, left spine, info txt file.

sadly my scanner doesn't go beyond 300 dpi.

the left spine is the same as the right one, except it's top-down.

> I had no idea that something called Creativision existed

It's a known console in most of the world, except the USA because it was mainly a PAL system. NTSC versions exist but are extremely hard finding. It's a top-want by most hardcore collectors.

The console hardware is extremely close to the Colecovision, except the CPU which is a 2MHz 6502 instead of a Z80. Plus, the Creativision features an embedded keyboard and cassette-tape port. Microsoft Basic is on optional cartridge.

> so I have no clue of the size of either the boxes or the carts  :-[

They're smaller than the VCS 2600 carts.

If you go visit the CreatiVEmu website, you can download PDF files containing scans of boxes (front + back), manuals, joystick overlays and carts. You can print them and see yourself the true size of everything.

By the way, fyi, the standard Creativision cart is 6,4 x  8,0 x 1,8 cm.

Compatible systems cartridges, like the ones for Hanimex Rameses/VTech Funvision, and the Laser 2001/Salora Manager, are slightly different.

The Multicart/Diagnosticart cart shells I produced are slightly different too as they were designed to fit every model of CV and compatible systems.

I think so.

I played a bit with the Astro Pinball cover and the scan is OK in my opinion. if you can provide scans above 300 dpi that would be great (somewhere between 300-600).
Here are a couple of previews sized to fit the UGC...

The images are GORGEOUS! I really didnt expect such "clean" images! Great job!

I should have access to a better scanner with higher DPI capability. I'll do what I can.

I'll keep this thread up to date with more scans, as soon as I put them online.

OK I just finished scanning all my boxed games. I'm currently uploading the ZIP files onto my ftp server.

Links to download files (still uploading... taks 2-3 more hours to complete):

- Auto Chase http://www.madrigaldesign.it/creativemu/scans/cv_auto_chase_300dpi.zip
- BASIC Interpreter http://www.madrigaldesign.it/creativemu/scans/cv_basic_300dpi.zip

- Crazy Chicky http://www.madrigaldesign.it/creativemu/scans/cv_crazy_chicky_300dpi.zip
- Deep Sea Adventure http://www.madrigaldesign.it/creativemu/scans/cv_deep_sea_adventure_300dpi.zip
- Locomotive http://www.madrigaldesign.it/creativemu/scans/cv_locomotive_300dpi.zip
- Mouse Puzzlehttp://www.madrigaldesign.it/creativemu/scans/cv_mouse_puzzle_300dpi.zip

- Tennis http://www.madrigaldesign.it/creativemu/scans/cv_tennis_300dpi.zip

The missing games are:
- Air/Sea Attack
My copy of the game box has an ugly sticker over the artwork. I could include a scan of a box variation having "clean" artwork, which you could add to the scan of the standard version. Please tell me what I should do with this...

- Chopper Rescue
I have the Australian version of this box, not the "standard" (international) one. Please tell me what I should do with this...

- Crazy Pucker (same as the uploaded cover of Crazy Chewy, just diff. name)
I miss the game box

- Crazy Moonie (same as the uploaded cover of Crazy Chewy, just diff. name)
I miss the game box

- Planet Defender
My copy of the game box has an ugly sticker over the artwork. I could include a scan of a box variation having "clean" artwork, which you could add to the scan of the standard version. Please tell me what I should do with this...

- Stone Age
I miss the game box

- Tank Attack
I have the Italian version of this box, not the "standard" (international) one. Are you interested in it? Please tell me what I should do with this...

For the boxes that have stickers on them: If the box artwork happens to be on the front of the manual, you can scan the manual and we can just use the artwork off that.

For the Australian and Italian boxes: Im not familiar with this game console at all but if the artwork on the Australian and Italian boxes are the same as the artwork on the International releases, theres no reason why we can just take the artwork and adapt it to the internation template.

Theres always a few work-arounds and were pretty versatile around here! ;)

Well no, the manual is black/white. But I have 2 boxes here: international (standard) with "masked" artwork, and an Australian version which has the same artwork (with no stickers on it). I'd post both covers, and you could "mesh" them.

Yes that's the case.

But the writings on the box are different.

OK will do so. But there's not one "template" only, there's a few variations. Maybe I could add the 150 DPI scan of the international box, and the 300 DPI scan of the Aussie and Italian versions, and you could "re-create" the needed layout.

Will do that later today :-)

Now uploading 2 more covers:

- Air/Sea Attack: http://www.madrigaldesign.it/creativemu/scans/cv_air-sea_attack_300_dpi.zip
Includes:
1. international box + German sticker on artwork
2. Italian box (take the full artwork and apply to the International box)

- Tank Attack: http://www.madrigaldesign.it/creativemu/scans/cv_tank_attack_mixed_dpi.zip
Includes:
1. international box at 150 dpi
2. Italian box at 300 dpi (take the "international layout" from other Creativision games)

As for Chopper Rescue, sadly I have a 300 dpi scan of the Australian version only, which differs quite a lot from the international version (which I don't have at all). Maybe you can rebuild an international box from the Australian version, using a "standard" layout, but the problem is the console picture on the back, which is probably different to the one shown in other cartridges.

No rush on that cart, you have scans of 80% of the existing games for Creativision, that's not bad at all imho :-)

Please post here your progresses, I'm really curious to see what you're able to do with my raw scans :-)

No good news on the CreatiVision covers project side?  :-\

As artists' time is limited they tend to consentrate on cover they need first and if after doing them they still have willingess and time to do them they might do them.

As general suggestion I suggest that people should get photoshop or download free program like Gimp or Paint.net and learn to do them themselves. ;D
