Spoonman:
I was wondering if there was a place within this forum somewhere where people review games.  I think it's a good idea because I'm curious about buying some games I've never played before. Like Metroid 2: Return of Samus for Gameboy.  Has anyone played it? What do you think of it? How does it compare to Metroid, Super Metroid, and the other Metroid gameboy games (Fusion, Zero Mission)?
Arseen:
I think there are some reviews in the general discussion board.

I wanted to rectify this with a CGR review...and he hasn't reviewed Metroid 2....Mark, get your shit together.

As I am opposed to this, emulation is a viable option for checking out games you heard about and never played...try before you buy kind of deal. Or you can go on youtube and watch reviews.

For me, it was personally the first metroid game I played, that said, it is pretty dern good due to its simplicity. If you try and compare it to the newer iterations of such, fusion and zero mission, it might not be able to fill the mold of what you would expect, when it was originally released it held up well but it's obviously quite dated.

Pros -
Stays true to metroid format, large map, lots of hidden items and powerups, mechanics are all the same. Straight forward metroid game.

Cons -

Dated compared to todays standards, you can't expect omg graphics from the gameboy and it doesn't do too much to innovate itself from the first metroid

When I got it brand new as a kid, I loved it , it is still one of the best games for the gameboy and keeps the series foundation true.

Long story short, its worth picking up. Just don't fault it for its shortcomings its a 21+ year old game and won't hold a candle to the newer versions in terms of such. The fact you can get it for less than 10$ makes it an easy choice.

The on,y thing I never liked about it when I had it as a kid was the giant sprite for Samus, when you have so little screen real estate, that was a killer for me. That said it is still a good game. Better than THE OTHER M anyhow,
