I'm back with another cover update! I put over 12 hours of work into this cover. It's my very first Japanese Game Boy cover. I picked up this game at the Portland Retro Game Swap Meet too. It's really neat how small the box and the instruction manual is for Japanese Game Boy games. I did a lot of research to find out how to retype Japanese writing. It wasn't easy. There are online Japanese keyboards that automatically convert letters into Japanese writing. That's good if you're familiar with Japanese and can read it. I personally can't read Japanese. I only know basic words and phrases from watching anime. There is a Japanese character recognition website I used here:
http://maggie.ocrgrid.org/nhocr/. This website can identify most Japanese characters from an image. For characters that are really tough to identify, I use KanjiTomo. You can get that program here: kanjitomo.net. This is a very handy program that can identify single Japanese symbols from an image too. It's also a Japanese to English dictionary. Once you find the right symbol in the program, you copy and paste it into your text box. This was the toughest cover I've worked on because I had to go back and forth to identify lots of the Japanese writing. While I was at it, I copied and pasted some of the Japanese writing I retyped in Photoshop right into Google Translate to find out what some of the writing says in English. I felt I was cracking a code while being fascinated at the same time. Here is the Japanese writing for the word "Game Boy": グ‐ムボ‐イ. Game Boy games released in the U.S. and Europe all have a side bar on the front of the box art. Japanese Game Boy boxes don't have a side bar and they're very small. I made this cover with the front side bar and one without the front side bar. This way, you can use the cover that you like best. I got the size for the back cover using Larryinc64's Japanese cover of Super Mario Land. Well, I'm going to let you guys go so you can check out my very first Japanese Game Boy cover!
