--- Quote from: wiggy on December 22, 2012, 02:23:33 PM ---But that assumes EVERYTHING will be 64bit+ by 2038 (which actually seems quite realistic) --- End quote --- Lets hope so, hell everything should be 64bit by the middle to end of this decade, I'm tired of that 4GB RAM limit. I'm guessing 128 bit would be next in 15-20 years, just depends on how technology flows. |

I think Moore's Law would put 128bit at roughly 2020, but who knows how long that will hold up... |

--- Quote from: JDavis on December 22, 2012, 01:51:39 AM --- --- Quote from: Dr.Agon on December 22, 2012, 01:06:00 AM ---wait, whats supposedly happening in 2038? --- End quote --- Short version: Computers normally tell time by counting the seconds since 00:00:00 January 1st 1970, UTC. At 03:14:08 January 19 2038, any computers using a signed 32-bit integer to keep track of time will run out of digits, flipping over into negative, and resulting in the time being interpreted as 20:45:52 December 13th 1901. Long version: Wikipedia article --- End quote --- how long have they known this? 25 years should be more than enough to eliminate this problem... also, december 24th and im still here! |

40 more minutes of Dec. 23rd here and counting... |
