I know there is a lot of computer savvy people here and need some helpful opinions. I'm looking to buy a laptop as a gift. Something for web browsing and writing papers, mostly simple stuff. As of right now it's between these two:

I want to pay around the $350 mark. Been waiting on deals but everyhting keeps selling out fast  :-\ Any help would be much appreciated.

TigerDirect.com always has daily and weekend deals. Check out them on good priced discounts as well and the shipping is pretty cheap too (if you got the free year of shoprunner you can get free two day if I am not mistaken).

I like the Toshiba laptops for that price range, try to find a Protege model instead of satellite as I find they have better performance and will last for a few years.
