I love these stories about the little hidden stores that turn up little gaming treasures so I though Id tell mine.
There is a house clearance place near me that I wandered into last year on the of chance of finding some booty. I asked the woman there if she had any old video games about and she said she was pretty sure there had been some sega stuff put away in the basement. She'd have look if it was still there and if I called in the following day I could root through it and grab what I fancied. Sounded good to me.
I turn up the next day and she pulls out 3 plastic carrier bags full of boxed games from behind the counter. There's Mega Drive, Master System, Saturn, Mega CD...loads and I'm thinking crap! this is going to cost me big time so I have a browse and find a couple that might be work a play but without blowing all my cash.
When I'm done flicking through them, she's now on the phone so to waste some time I have a look around and find a boxed Mega Drive console hiding on the floor under some boxes. Nice.
Once she's off the phone I ask her how much she wants for the handful of games I've got. She umms and ahhs for a second and then says.. "How about a fiver for the lot" £5! FANTASTIC!
I've got a bit of spare cash to play with now so I ask about the console and how much that will set me back. She looks at it hidden under all the junk and says "I don't think it works, you can have it free with the games". I'm not saying no to a free boxed console working or not..
Turns out the power LED had just come loose and combined with a very dusty cart slot was being a bit naughty at booting. A quick clean and a little solder and it was working great again.
All together, I ended up with a fully boxed Mega Drive console, 11 Mega Drive, 5 Saturn, 2 Mega CD and 7 Master System games for a grand total of £5. Not a bad days shopping.
