by the way, Arseen,  the Claymates cover is about 50% complete.

Cool, can hardly wait to finally have that version too.

> I wish you the best of luck.  I offered up my time and equipment to scan in a full set of Genesis and Game Gear manuals, though, haven't had anyone offer up anything (and I offered to cover shipping costs both ways):

Yes, it is painfully hard to attract actual donations. Even with an emulator that gets 40,000 downloads a release, I've received about 20 games, 10 boxes and 40 manuals. Now, I'm not disappointed. I'm thrilled and honored to receive anything for free! But yeah, that was with the easy to obtain US set.

Now imagine trying to get expensive EU games, and JP games from people who mostly don't speak English.

I wish someone here could buy my auction (if only to resell once finished, you definitely won't lose money with the rate these games are increasing in value) ... I wanted to scan the manuals, but it takes about 1-5 hours depending on the number of pages (some are 150+ pages like Chrono Trigger), which would eat up several years of my free time. It will kill my emulator project entirely.

I was only able to scan the most expensive and valuable manuals (3 Ninjas Kick back, Aero Fighters, Incantation, Buckeroo$, ...)

The EU and JP games are getting harder and harder to find. If I sit on my US collection, I will end up unable to obtain EU and JP carts and boxes at all. At the end of the day, priority #1 is clean game dumps for emulation. Priority #2 is cart+PCB scans. Priority #3 is box scans. Priority #4 is, sadly, manual scans. Manuals are amazing and deserve to be preserved. But I am forced to prioritize due to limited funds.

> I've only got a handful of JP boxes, Byuu, but I'd gladly let you borrow them for the cause.

For JP, I am primarily interested in buying instead of borrowing right now.

My plan is to build a complete set, and then sell it to fund the next complete set, and repeat.

I've written off the EU set as too expensive to ever complete, so I'm basically willing to piecemeal that one through borrowing.

> Just so I understand, you have the entire US collection scanned already?

All carts, all boxes, and five manuals. I did not scan the top part of US labels, although they appeared anyway in my scans, just at an angle.

My intention was never to assist fake reproductions anyway, so it's not as big a deal to me that the tops are at an angle not ideal for reprinting.

I only have five manuals scanned so far. I will probably scan 5-10 more expensive ones before the manuals leave my possession.

> I volunteer to help clean some covers.

That would be great, too.

If at all possible, I'd like to have my entire set cleaned up. Ideally, I'd like to downsample to 100-150DPI and JPEG encode at medium. Make a ~50-100MB image pack, and allow it to be combined with my emulator for one really awesome launcher that lets you see all the box art and cart labels before you play games. Plus some screen shots, meta data, etc. Would be really cool.

In order to properly restore the scans, it's important to keep them at the very least 300 dpi.

@Segamer - He's scanning at high res, then plans to resample down to lower res for use in his emulator only. I don't think he plans on tossing the original high res images (at least I hope not).

I  am sure if you unload the box scans/labels etc to the people here they will easily help you clean them up as well as resample them for your usages all the while keeping the high res stuff for our cover creations.

Just have to set it up to allows us access to such and we can get to work, and I am sure an organized method of maintaining them on both ends once cleaned up and re-sizing has taken place.

I could build a macro for the re-sample/re-size as well.

Open file, click macro, done.

@Arseen: you can count it. I never forget your kindness and I'm always willing to help you. You're awesome. I am just backed up with work. Besides collecting old game scans, I also collect old Operating Systems and software and I am currently organizing and categorizing all of the Windows XP updates since 2008 (basically making a SP4.) I also collect cd covers, old books (as far back as I can go - currently 1100.) busy busy :-D but I will always help you with stuff. You've scanned alot of covers for me and I am grateful for that work.

@BYUU: we share the same interest. I want the same things. I could have spent so many years cleaning but I am still collecting scans so that is my top priority. If I could get copies of your cover, cart and manual scans, then I could spend all of my time cleaning instead of begging people for scans. You can be certain that I will share all of my work with you. I have already started cleaning several manuals. I drool about the Incantation manual, covers and cart scans. I have been searching for this game art for a long time with no luck. I want to clean this manual. Please share your scans with me. I am anxious to clean. We have the same desires. Let's fulfill the dream and get to work. You can count on me cleaning and sharing with you.

I'm sure that alot of members will help clean the scans. teamwork goes a long way.

Byuu - I'm curious.  The 60 GB that you have, is that just cover scans, or is that more?

Thank You, Random. TCP is my home for gaming, so I post here only. I had posted a manual thread last year for all of my manual work. If BYUU will share his scans, then I will revive the thread adding completed covers, cart labels and manuals. I have a MediaFire account where I will store copies of all of my work. I accept requests but I need raw scans, so BYUU's scans are very important to me.

edit:
By the way, I am also making my own strategy guides. I have 25 GBs of screen captures and maps for DK 64. I have also started strategy guides for Twisted Metal 1, 2, 3 and 4. I will also post copies of the guides here at TCP.

lol, 25GBx of data for a guide of a game wich is like 32MB :D.

I tried to collect manual scans for watching in my computer, not for printing. I've softly retouched some of them when I didn't like much the general quality and I know it's a really time consuming tasks. Going to check for more of your work, thanks.

lol ja, but I have managed to get outside of every level. I have screen captures of every area of each level from various angles. I save the images in tiff file format for preservation of quality. tiff files grow large and consume alot of space.

here is a sample of DK64 screen captures

i work for a university as an LSP and thus have unlimited upload bandwidth.  i live about 2 hrs from columbus.  if there's any need for a comprehensive 60GB upload if someone has the space to host it, i can provide the legwork.

not sure if this helps, but i'd like to throw a hand in if needed.

It's 60GB for the collection of front+back box scans (I fold them flat so the entire thing is scanned) [40MB PNG compressed per image, two images per box], and for the cartridge label + PCB scans [20MB PNG compressed per image]

The manuals tend to average 30-40MB per two pages [each image is two pages when the book is unstapled and scanned.] So that really depends on the manual. So about 250MB to 2GB per manual is to be expected.
