Thank you, sir!

Hi.

So my goal is to scan and dump everything myself. Now I understand that angers other scanners. I am not saying I am better than anyone else, or that I'll do a better job, or anything like that. My goal is simply absolute consistency.

I bought three of the same exact model of CCD scanner. I scan everything at exactly 600DPI with the same color profile and settings. I save everything as lossless PNG. I scan everything at the same angle, at the same pixel position, as straight as humanly possible (I am not perfect here), etc. When I dump games, I extract a complete memory map using a custom microcontroller board. I actually dump the games through the SNES' controller port (how cool is that?) I have a modified SNES that I can hotswap SA-1 games into, run my own code to dump special mappers like the SPC7110, I build out a consistent database for all the board information, etc.

Further, think of it from an outsider's perspective, specifically that of a historian. Would you rather trust one very well known emulator author's set of dumps to be authentic? Or eighty seven anonymous people's dumps, gathered from who knows where and dumped by who knows what means to be accurate? The less people involved to complete a set, the less people have to be trusted. Would you want images taken from 63 different scanner models and 67 people, or a set of images taken from one specific scanner and one specific person? So please don't take any offense to me wanting to scan everything, that's not my intention at all.

So, that said, I scanned the entire US set. Boxes, carts and PCBs. It was always my intention for everyone to have access to the work. So I don't want to have to ask something like this, but I worry it's the only way I can ever complete the project.

If you guys will please work with me ... let me get the EU and JP boxes and carts to scan. I will send them back to you, and provide you with the scans. Help me finish my goal, and I will gladly help you finish your goal.

Specifically, right now my goal is to complete and own a full Japanese set, and to simply borrow and return the European set piecemeal. So if at all possible, I would like to buy Japanese CIB games, and borrow European carts and boxes that I will return (unless you don't want them, of course.)

So what do you guys think? Can we help each other achieve our mutual goals? :D

I think you will find an overwhelming amount of support here to help assist with your goals, like you we are in it for the preservation of such and our collections.

Also, I completely see your point about it all coming from one source, makes total sense.

That said, I will help in any way possible, though personall I cannot contribute much in the JP/PAL boxes/carts/manuals area as they are just things I am not after no have much access to.

Essentially, you are the yin to our yang of what we are after and the purpose of this site, so lets get to work and make everyone happy =)

@Wiggy: Where was I? Sound asleep. ;D

@UncleBob: Thank you.

You could create Mediafire acccount and dump the covers there.
Mediafire is free and has 50 gigs of space (limit is 200 megs per file if I know correctly), so you'll need 2 accounts probably.

After dumping the covers there you would not strain your bandwidth anymore as the files are off your computer.

Box.com is as good, I just don't know the limits there.

I do have PAL (I'm Finnish) and Jap boxes, carts and manuals (and maps/posters), even some rarer ones like CIB Lennus 2.
I think sneak from  here posted you link to my stuff.

I could of course mail them to you too, but i think that would be freaking expensive.

Could you send few scans for review to us so we can see the quality.

Thank you.

I first just wanted to take a second to welcome you to The Cover Project, Byuu!  :)

I think with some members being from Europe, some should be able to help you with your goal of scanning Euro & Japanese boxes (I would hope).

Yup, I had provided Byuu the link to your stuff via private message on the Nintendoage forums a few days ago. (thank you for that Arseen)
