I have been toying with the idea of bringing a story of a classic video game to life in form of a movie. I don't want it to suck. And I don't want to use a major story that is already been worked on (ie. Final Fantasy, Street Fighter, Halo or anything that has fan projects already). I instead want to take a classic game's story and bring it to life!

But! I want to make something that you guys would like to see. I have costume and set designers, a couple of writers and some actors on board. The only thing that I would need is a mutual consensus by the gamers of what obscure but awesome classic story you want to bring to life. I'm talking about the old era where you just got a hint of story or some story and more could of came from it, if you get what I'm saying.

So share some ideas of old games that you would like brought to life :)

That sounds awesome!

Some of the classic beat 'em ups could be done, ie Final Fight, Double Dragon, River City Ransom, etc.
I don't know if there's a fan film of this or not, but Castlevania or Contra might also work really well.

I'd be happy to see anything, to be honest.

One word: Metroid.

I'd love this. but would it be too big for first movie?

Try something smaller like Mario Kart or Punch out.

Or if you want to go epic go for Zelda.

I'd love to see epic films made of both the Metroid and Zelda series. The latter would have to use a careful approach though, or folks would think it was a LOTR ripoff.

I think he's looking for something more obscure than Zelda, Mario, Megaman, or Metroid (although the latter would be the closest to 'obscure' of the four).

That said, I agree with larry that the original Dragon Warrior might be a good choice.  The game was basically five minutes of dialogue and another 7-1/2 hours of grind, so there's definitely some story potential there.

day of the tentacle? AFAIK its not had a re-release, so might be forgotten enough
demon front?, may be notorious, but how many people have played it and speak Korean to understand the story?, you could basically make it up, story wise!

Some very good ideas here. But I think wolf nailed it here:

These were my initial ideas since it has a bit of action to not have people drown in the story and would make good use of a few black belts that I know lol.

Also metroid fan films are all over the place (example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HzOXtF2WAbg ). I'm not touching a lot of the more animated stuff (ie Mario Bros's etc).

So far I'm liking the Beat Em' up and Dragon Warrior ideas. Punch out as Arseen mentioned is totally doable (but I fear it might be too Rocky like).

Also thought I might add this I saw lol  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=paXoVlRZoEI
Keep the ideas coming! :)
