PS3 Crsis! Help!

I turned on my PS3 just now to watch a Blu-ray...  Under the video tab ALL of my mother's photo's and videos from her own personal PC are there!  How the hell is this possible?  She has her own PC laptop which is not connected to my PS3 in any way shape or form.  Worst of all, it will not let me delete them!  Why is this happening all of a sudden and what can I do about it?  How is my PS3 picking up what she is not even putting on the internet?!

You're on the same network, and Windows likes to share stuff in your My Pictures/Pictures Library, etc. across devices on the same network.

There's probably a setting in the PS3 menu to not accept that stuff, but otherwise it'll have to be done on her end.

You are seeing shared files over your home network. These are files that your mom put in a "shared folder" on her computer they are not being stored in your PS3. Is the same feature that lets you stream video and music form one computer to another or to the PS3 (within your home network not the internet).

Here is what to do on your PS3 menu.
1. Go to Settings.
2. Choose Network Settings.
3. Choose Media Server Connection.
4. Choose Disable.

P.S. It's not a Crisis, it's a standard basic feature of all home networks.

On my laptop, I have the (3) following network options:

1. Home Network
2. Work Network
3. Public Network

I have it set to public network, because it seems like it would keep my stuff more private from her if it thinks I'm in a public place.

You might have the same Internet IP but it's unlikely that you have the same Network IP. That is usually unique and determined by your home router (unless you change your router settings and I don't recommend that to the inexperienced).

If you are using windows then the Music, Video and Pictures folders are usually set to share by default. As long as you keep your private files out of those 3 folders, you should not be broadcasting them thru your network. Keep stuff out of My Documents also, Just in case.

You might have the same Internet IP but it's unlikely that you have the same Network IP. That is usually unique and determined by your home router (unless you change your router settings and I don't recommend that to the inexperienced).

But I do have pictures in the pictures folder.  There is a tab above that says Share With, and under it I clicked on 'Nobody".  Will that do the trick?

Just make sure wherever they are that the folder (or it's higher up folders) are not set to shared on your laptop.  DO NOT share your entire drive, that's how you get in trouble.  Easy way to see what is shared is to go to another computer and look on the network and see what you can see (if anything) from your computer.

I can't look at her PC, she won't let me.  But as long as I did this do you think I'm good:

If you'd like to completely disable sharing (at least on Windows), go to Control Panel -> Network and Sharing Center and there you can completely turn of file sharing or just disable the shared folder.

I'm using Windows 7... I'm with you so far, but then what after Network and Sharing center?  I do not see any options to disable the shared folder, nor to completely turn off file sharing.

You should be able to see a "change advanced sharing settings" blue link towards the bottom of that window (2nd to last link).  Click on it and another window will open with a lot of different options.  The first 3 are the ones you would probably want to turn off.  It should turn everything off so you don't have to worry about anyone on your network/homegroup seeing your stuff.
