*COUGH COUGH GASP CHOKE COUGH* :-X That was unwise.
Anyway, so.... Between casing all my games (that were in cases) with generic covers and trying to focus my efforts on finishing "the template" instead of just making more covers.... I completely killed my motivation to work on any of it. :-\ And then since I wasn't working on it, I stopped visiting the forum as well >__>;
BUT! Then something happened that gave me some inspiration!
My other favorite game series (besides Zelda) came out with a new entry... or demo, depending on who you ask. After playing it quite a bit I felt like going back and playing some of the older games in the series again including the mostly forgotten original games... And that brings us to the current work in progress:
I'm still not casing my NES games until the Onion cases are available (and I get more space), but as long as my muse wants me to work on a cover for the thing (which will coincidentally involve me working on the NES's side of the template), I should probably go along.
The front there is all placeholder. I'm planning to redraw all of that and try my best to match Yoji Shinkawa's (the lead artist on the series since the PS1) art style. Also going to give Snake his bandana :P
The cover as a whole is meant to match the Essential Collection covers for MGS1, MGS2, and MGS3 (even though I don't own said collection), hence the anachronistic Kojima Productions and Konami logos (instead of Ultra Games) and largely single-colored back.
Also because I don't really like the shoddy NES port of the game, I've used the original Japanese MSX version's color scheme for the logo. The concrete texture for the back is also inspired by the Japanese MSX case. It's orange because... Well, the game feels "orange" to me. ??? *shrug* Kojima went with red, blue, and green respectively for MGS1-3, which all fit perfectly, but I think this one's "orange"
Once I'm done with it, I'll probably adapt the cover for a PS2 case with Metal Gear 2's logo as well, for anyone wants to use it for the second disc of MGS3:Subsistance that had the MSX ports.

With the upcoming release of Mario Kart 8, I'm likely to get inspired to do just that. Gotta finish this one first, though.

Finished redrawing TX-55 Metal Gear. Next up is Snake himself.

The ESRB does have a rating for Metal Gear and they gave it an "E".

That's actually the erroneously listed rating for "Metal Gear Solid" for Gameboy Color (better known to fans and those in Japan as Metal Gear: Ghost Babel)
